I recently converted all my .264 MKV movies to .265 MP4s. Both files are named as recommended. For example, Aladdin (1992).mkv and Aladdin (1992).mp4.
The mkv file displays as expected in the PMS interface, simply as Aladdin with a subdued 1992 below it. The issue is when I changed everything to MP4 format it displays in the PMS interface as Aladdin (1992) with the subdued 1992 below it.
Why is the PMS interpreting/parsing mkv and mp4 files differently? How can I get PMS to remove the year indication from the file name. I’ve added a screen capture of my interface for reference.
The movies that are displaying properly in the screen capture are non-HD .264 MKVs still.
That fixed it. I deselected the Local Media Assets under all the movie agents and refreshed all the meta data. Fixed all but one. Not sure what’s going on there, but I can live with that for now.
… and 99.9% of the time ANY info contained in the Title Field is BOGUS/WILL NOT MATCH/NOT EVEN CLOSE and unless LMA is Demoted Plex will PREFER that BOGUS/UNMATCHABLE/WRONG/OUT OF COMPLIANCE name - even over a perfect file name.
Do NOT disable LMA.
Only DEMOTE LMA.
LMA does things you want - except prefer BOGUS embedded metadata in MP4/M4V files that make your life miserable. Once LMA is demoted - that is no longer the case. Plex will then prefer your file names and structures and if those aren’t right - you’re on your own.
