Getting the year displayed twice in titles

I’ve named my movies as follows

Movie Name (Year).mp4

Most metadata seems to have downloaded correctly, the only problem I get is that the year is added into the title of each movie. How do I get rid of the year in parentheses?

Those years in parentheses are probably included in the embedded ‘Title’ tag in your mp4 files.
Go to Settings - Server - Agents - Movies - Plex Movie
In there, grab the line ‘Local Media Assets’ with your mouse and drag it downwards, so it ends up being at the bottom of the stack of active agents.

Do the same under
Settings - Server - Agents - Movies - TheMoviedatabase
and
Settings - Server - Agents - Shows - TheTVDB
and
Settings - Server - Agents - Shows - TheMoviedatabase

Afterwards Refresh the affected movies.

Thanks Otto, I assumed it was legacy metadata from an old program but didn’t know how to override it.

For the benefit of others and if that embedded name hangs on.

I have had an embedded name survive multiple Plex Dances even after REMOVING the embedded Title Field (that I can’t explain and it makes my head hurt thinking about it).

I have had my LMA agent at the bottom of the list for some time and I just tried a fresh placement of:

‘The Incredible Mr. Limpet (1964)’
with the embedded Title Field:
‘Don Knots - Closet Casanova’

A correct match does occur and I can gleefully report that embedded name doesn’t appear. Lord only knows what will happen if Plex gets a bundle with an embedded and bogus name in the Title Field in it’s teeth.

I do however strongly suggest The Plex Dance® if the old names stubbornly hang on:

  1. remove item(s) from library
  2. update library
  3. clean bundles
  4. empty trash
https://support.plex.tv/hc/en-us/articles/200392106-Library-Actions <---- update libraries, clean bundles, empty trash
  5. remove embedded names from MP4/M4V files AND move LMA - if it’s not moved already
  6. replace item(s) into library
    7 update libraries

Note: If you have large libraries that take a long time to update when you do them all at once, refreshing a single library is all that is necessary in the above procedure, but it is necessary one way or the other none-the-less as are all of the steps above.
