PMS Crashed

Server Version#: 1.25.8.5663
Player Version#: 4.77.3

Hi,

My Plex server has been crashing every few days and I didn’t have time to figure it out until now.
I’m on Synology NAS DSM 7 (latest update).

I have attached the logs. If any additional information is needed, ask and I will do my best to provide.
Appreciate the help.

All releases are broken since since PMS 1.25.xxx the transcoder or somewhat is broken and lead inevitably to a crash of the server after few days of run…

@Roflix

Please provide specific results (DEBUG, not VERBOSE) server log files which capture this?

Blanket , non-specific, statements are not actionable.

@Zralle

I’m not seeing evidence of a servercrash.
I am seeing where a couple player apps have stopped abruptly.

Your 4 rollover logs are all good from the server side.

Can you please capture the logs again right after it happens?

I’m sorry, I will try to get the logs right after the crash. You can close this thread and I will open new one with proper logs.

Thank you.

@ChuckPa - I’m running into numerous PMS server crashes as well. I’m on the latest versions:

DSM 7 stable release (DSM 7.0.1-42218 Update 3)
PMS Server # 1.25.8.5663

It seems to happen when simultaneous users are watching streams, but I can’t see anything obvious in the log files. Here’s a paste from the logs from about 1m before the crash happened.

The only thing that I can think might be stressing the server is one person was watching an IPTV stream and the other was playing some saved content that was 720p HEVC (but pretty low bit rate so I wouldn’t have thought it would be too taxing)?

@StealingTime

I would have preferred the entire ZIP file (you can remove that yourself after posting too).

From what I see in this log, I see DVR activity.

What your log snippet doesn’t show is which CPU is being used.

HEVC is very taxing in software and easily maxes out the CPU of a Syno. You need a NAS with the X86_64 CPU in it to work with HEVC.

Which model do you have? Does it have the Intel chip? (Control Panel - Info Center)

@ChuckPa - sorry about that - in my effort to be helpful with a log snippet, I wasn’t very helpful!

It’s DS418play so Celeron J3355 upgraded to 8gb of ram.

Yes, I do use Plex as DVR to record some IPTV streams. Though, when that crash happened I don’t think there was any scheduled to record at that time. I have been using Plex to record some daily news shows for the last two years and it’s been rock solid with never a crash until starting about 6 weeks ago I’m getting PMS crashes somewhere between 2x per day to once every 2-3 days.

Here’s the full log:

@ChuckPa any chance you can a take a closer look at my previous log or this one I have just uploaded? I had another crash again this morning around 531am local time, but I’m just really struggling to understand how to read this log…

Looks like the crash that was fixed in 1.25.9 beta (available as from 1.25.9.5673)

See release note for latest beta 1.25.9.5712:

  • (AdDetector) Fix potential crash (#13421)

This crash may arise at end of DVR recordings after removing commercials

Ahh, thanks! Will start testing!

Did this update get pushed to the public channel also? I seem to have this version installed, but I’m not pulling from the beta channel. If it was pushed there, it didn’t fix the issue for me.

@DarrenWalker it also public since yesterday.

Are you on windows PMS, or synology?
My crashes on windows seems to be fixed.
On synology I still not see any crashes…

Maybe its a different problem in your case.

WIndows 10 (21H2) And its still crashing after the Ad detectors end.

So, better start a new Thread, this thread is about Synology Server and provide logs to @sa2000

There is a windows 10 thread open already. I’ll try to find that one.

I have had a look and responded here Plex server random crashes - #6 by sa2000

Plex Media Server 1.25.9.5721/Synology still crashing for me. I have been getting random crashes for at least a month now. I wish the service would auto-restart (Hint: new feature with some sort of rate limit for real serious issues). I have missed many DVR recordings when it shuts down with no notifications.

Thanks for the logs
I have located the crash report for Apr 08, 2022 00:00:31
It looks similar to another one I am investigating

It has been referred to the development team

This update appears to have resolved my issue as I have not seen any crashes since installing it.
