Good evening Plex team, I am having an issue I have not been able to get to the bottom of with my server. I have had a stable server running for years, it is on a Server 2016 essentials box with a stable bit drivepool feeding the server. A few weeks ago I started noticing my server was down every morning. I scoured logs, and found lots of things I thought could be the issue but so far, none have.
I have updated to the latest server multiple times, optimized databases, I even restored my entire app data from a backup but all to no avail. Every night, the server goes down a little after 3 am. Each time I notice that it successfully uploads a crash log. I will attach the logs from my most recent restart after the server was down from last night. If someone smarter than I am could have a look and possibly point me in the right direction to rectifying this issue it would be greatly appreciated.
I really do not want to full clean install as I have a lot of custom media entries that I dread the idea of having to re input. I do not see any errors in event viewer coinciding with the plex server crash to establish something outside of plex causing this.
I’d just like to add that I’ve seen the same behaviour, but only since updating from 1.21.1.3876 to 1.21.2.3943, but this was on a QNAP NAS (TS670 with i5-3470T/16GB). I’ve not pulled the logs down, but what I did see was a huge increase in system load from the point in which Plex performs its nightly maintenance tasks.
I was still getting performance metrics as thankfully the collectd service was still running, but I was unable to connect either through SSH or Web Console, and had to do a hard shutdown.
Just wondering if you monitor performance/system load and saw a similar trend in load?
Hmm. I don’t actively monitor system performance but I’ll log on and sniff around. Admittedly, I’m no Sys admin, I’m very much learning as I go. Server 2016 was a big change from my old WHS 2011 box.
However, I do have some stuff running I may be able to pull some data from with histograms depending on how long I need to go back. I’ll take a look.
On the other point you brought up, unfortunately I can’t pinpoint which Plex server version I was last on that did not perform this nightly crash. I haven’t watched as much media the last while, and only found it it was down when my wife asked me why it wasn’t working the last few days. But I’m sure Plex techs can see when my account started sending logs around 3am since it reports the auto upload.
Well I am at a loss, but I changed my maintenance time to later in the morning, and for the first time in weeks, my server did not crash. I cannot say I have any idea why. Maybe an update came out last night?
