PMS creates a mess when indexing Various Artists Albums

Server Version#: Current Latest Stable
Player Version#: Current Latest Stable

My music library is, categorically, arranged in the prescribed Album_Artist/Album/Track format.

All filles are carefully tagged using Picard or Easytag; (Title, Artist, Album, Album Artist, Genre, etc).

This works OK when the Artist is the same as the Album Artist.

But when I have “Various Artists” as the album artist, PMS insists on creating one album entry for each track. SO for a 40 track album I get get 40 album records, all the same name and smae album artist, with one track per album, like this

Checking the Artist, AlbumArtist, Album, Disk #, Genre tags they are the same in each track record.

Various Artists albums of 30 or more tracks seem to be the ones affected.

Any ideas why?

.

Can you provide a screen shot of your folder structure and file naming?

Here’s an album with 30+ songs that shows up as one album in Plex.

As I stated, my audio library is structured as prescribed and EVERY file has the key tags filled.

So more out of frustration than common sense I

  • ran detox over the music library directories
  • nuked the PMS database and
  • started again.

It’s still scanning (since xmas eve) but the one track one album issue seem to have resolved itself.

Performance also seems much better, so I’m concluding the previous database was corrupted.

Anyway, we will continue until next time something falls over.

What does that mean?
