PMS separating tracks from ripped DJ compilation into different albums. Anyone know why?

I rip the CD, place it into its own labelled folder inside the PMS music library folder and update the library. I go to the library, view albums, sort by date added and I see 12 albums with a single track each. I’ve ripped similar CDs without a problem but this set is pretty obscure; Plex found the song titles but the full CD set didn’t register.

The key is to set the ‘AlbumArtist’ meta tag on all tracks to a common value
e.g. ‘Various Artists’ or ‘DJ MixMaster’ etc

Prior to posting this I changed Artist to Various Artists on a couple of tracks and made sure the compilation name was the same but that didn’t change anything. The solution above is a bit complex but I’ll dig in when I have an hour or five to kill.

Unfortunately, Plex’s ‘Refresh All Metadata’ command has not worked for a very long time. You’ll need to do the ‘Plex Dance’ (the problem has been around so long, the workaround has acquired a name) to get Plex to see the changes.

Here are the Plex Dance steps, copied from the above link, and updated because the ‘Update’ command has been renamed to ‘Scan Library Files.’

[optional: disable the SubZero plugin if installed]

  1. move all files for the show out of ‘sight’ of plex
  2. 'Scan Library Files'

  3. empty trash

  4. clean bundles

  5. double check naming schema and move files back

  6. 'Scan Library Files'

[optional: re-enable the SubZero plugin if installed]
