PMS delete some music library star ratings, change album coves and Artist name

I am having many problem with my music library in Plex Media Server, here are some problems:

  1. Star ratings disappear, I use one star rating system as a thumbs up and down and some time I play a song that I am positive that it was mark as a one star but it’s not mark with the star.
  2. I have added “Tags Collections” to many artist and then Plex Media Server delete them.
Because those “Tags Collections” where deleted some Playlist now are empty.
  3. PMS change Artist name, for example I listen to Kitaro and I have to change the name many times because PMS change to the name in “喜多郎”
  4. I have a good quality album cover and PMS change the album cover to a black frame.
  5. I have add more information about Artists, for example “Biography” information and one month later that information I add is gone.

How can I prevent PMS to change the data I add to my Artist, I use Plex Music Agent but sometime I have to unmatch so I have the album information correctly. Should I use Personal Media Artist agent?

Server Version#: Windows 10 PMS Version 1.32.8.7639
Player Version#: Plexamp iOS 4.8.4

Do you by chance have automatic or periodic library scans enabled for your server? In combination with the option to empty the trash automatically and some media on drives that take quite some time to spin up this can lead to Plex removing items which it cannot immediately find. During a subsequent scan, Plex has probably picked your files up again… however by then all your manual edits were gone.

If you’re having that issue I strongly recommend to disable the option to automatically empty the trash.

Thanks for the replay tom8H, yes I have “Scan my library automatically” and “Empty trash automatically after every scan” enable. I will disable empty trash.

Do you think by changing “empty trash” to off will solve the 5 problems that I mentioned before?

All those 5 points of yours relate to manual changes that got lost. By disabling automatically emptying the trash, Plex will keep the database records even if it no longer finds the underlying files. Therefore the manual changes aren’t touched.

The only „downside“ is that you’ll have to manually trigger the „Empty Trash“ command from the library context menu if you’ve actually deleted some files.

Again thanks for the help, another strange thing is that if I go to “Recently Added in Music” I see that 25 days ago Plex imported more than 1,000 albums and those albums were added to Plex more than 2 years ago.

Could be another symptom of the same issue.
