PMS discontinued for QNAP TS-230

1.30 is the last available version of Plex server for QNAP TS-230. I lost access from mobile to my libraries. It says that I need to be on 1.41 in order for it to be compatible from the Plex App on mobile.

At https://www.plex.tv/es/media-server-downloads, the only version available for download (1.41) isn’t distributed for TS-230.

What can I do?

I don’t know this particular QNAP (there than a quick google to see that it is no longer being sold).

I guess your options are:

  • Reload the older version of the Plex player to your devices (the version that was compatible), but this may only buy you some time.
  • Get a new QNAP
  • Move Plex to something else entirely (like a desktop).

So far as I know… PMS for Qnap isn’t model specific. I have a Qnap with a bare metal install (not in a container) and I get prompted for PMS updates routinely. I do have to manually download them and install them through Qnap’s App Center though.

The available PMS in Qnap’s App Center is the version 1.30. It hasn’t changed for months.
Maybe I could download an installer from https://www.plex.tv/media-server-downloads/?cat=nas&plat=qnap
but the options are:
ARMv7 (TS-x31x, TS-x31P, …)
ARMv7 (TS-x31 and TS-x31U)
ARMv8(TS-x28 and TS-x32)
Intel/AMD

None of the options seem to be valid for TS-230

Check the NAS compatibility spreadsheet. It will show the CPU architecture.

TS-230 is an ARMv8 CPU

As long as you’re running QTS 5.0 and above

PMS 1.41.8 - QNAP - ARMv8

Perfect!!!

I downloaded and installed the .qpkg manually, and the update completed without any problems.

I now have access again through the mobile app.
