I have a QNAP TVS-471… I downgraded to QTS v2.5 because the 64 bit wreaked havoc on my Plex system. I don’t have an issue with updating o the latest version of QTS but the last time none of my devices (Fire TV Stick, etc…) could see my Plex server!
yes, it is. I don’t have an issue with updating to the latest version of QTS but the last time none of my devices (Fire TV Stick, TV, etc…) could see my Plex server!
The lowest version supported is QTS 4.3 due to the GLIBC requirement in PMS 1.15.0 and above. GLIBC was updated a bit from the ancient & archaic to 2.14.1. As reference, most distros are now running 2.28 and higher.
Since PMS 1.9.x and QTS 2.5, a lot has changed.
Given its age, it may not migrate well so there is the potential that updating will yield a worse experience than starting over.
If you’re comfortable with the command line, we can migrate most (likely all) of your media watch status. If you’ve watched all of it, you can manually mark it watched now.
One major change in PMS is the requirement for RFC-1918 addressing on the local LAN. This means either a 192.168.x.x or 10.x.x.x or 172.16.x.x -> 172.31.x.x subnet addressing scheme internally.
Is your LAN already setup this way?
Another consideration with QTS which will cause you issue is the changeover to /share/CACHEDEVx_DATA addressing of the volumes.
Right now both of my QNAP devices use the 192.168.x.x addresses. When I set up the PMS I just chose my /share/CACHEDEV1_DATA/Movies and /share/CACHEDEV1_DATA/TV libraries.
Excellent! There have been a lot of cases where folks would have the very old MDx_DATA (MD0_DATA, MD1_DATA…) addressing and they were forced to rebuild because all the volume names changed.
upgrading isn’t going to be too problematic here.
There is a finite set of steps to perform to prevent loss of your existing metadata.
As long as we follow those steps, you’ll be in good shape.
What’s your pleasure?
Go to QTS 4.4 and current PMS?
NOTE: When you upgrade to current QTS, if you have a Virtual Switch, the migration isn’t smooth. It’s usually best to delete and recreate it after the fact.
