PMS does not want to play all video media

Server Version#: Version 4.76.1
Player Version#: Version 4.76.1

I am currently running PMS on Ubuntu 22.04. I did have a problem accessing files in my /home/admin folder. That permissions issue seems to be fixed. Now I am having a problem with media I have classified as TV shows. These files have been ripped from DVDs or downloaded from the Internet and are formatted as .mp4.

I have pointed PMS to the folder where they are located, but only one file shows up even though there should be 30-40 different shows. I have tried reclassifying the media as videos instead of TV shows and the same thing happens. Am I running into another permissions issue?

Some things to check:

  1. Use a TV Show library. No mixing media types in the same library.

  2. Follow Plex’s docs for naming & organization.
If you stray too far from the docs, it will cause problems with recognition.

  3. Verify embedded metadata or tell Plex to ignore it.
Plex can read metadata in mp4 files. If the metadata is incorrect, Plex may have problems correctly organizing the media.
To configure Plex to ignore metadata, edit the library, choose Advanced, deselect “Prefer Local Metadata,” and save changes. Then refresh the metadata for the library.
