Does anyone know why you can’t access your local PMS without an active Internet connection? My Internet recently went out for some time and thought no big deal I’ll watch shows on my Plex. Turns out I wasn’t able to do that as my devices kept giving some sort of Plex offline or can’t access plex.tv right now error. Tried accessing through Samsung Smart TV and the latest Android player app. I couldn’t even access the web version by going to my local IP address. As soon as my Internet connection was restored, everything worked like normal. I know this didn’t work this way in the past. Anyone why or how I can get this to work without needing the Internet to access my local Media?
You should definitely set yourself up via the How To that @darganbright56 linked to.
But, as a backup, I suggest you install Jellyfin to run concurrent to your PMS. PMS is more polished, but Jellyfin is 100% local login, so as long as your internal network up, your Jellyfin clients will work just fine.
Just point Jellyfin at your existing media. If you’ve followed proper Plex naming conventions, Jellyfin will pick up and match 99% just fine, and sit in the background using virtually 0 resources.
I made the suggested change to the network settings to allow access without authentication. This worked for the web client, but not for the android client (v 2025.27.0). I pretty sure I used be able to access Plex without Internet using both the android client and smart tv client, but it been a long time ago so I could be wrong.
Seems like everything is requiring Internet access lately, even for none Internet stuff. Oh well, guess I need to make sure I physical discs of all my content.
