I would like the ability to have artwork and metadata scraped by PMS saved to local media folders. The media browser 3 server does this by selecting to save to local folders. It's a very handy feature to have and also makes for a good back up if Plex needed to be reinstalled on a fresh or new PC. I spend a lot of time in Photoshop doing custom artwork and often don't have backups of my work. Trying to find anything in the PMS data folders is just a nightmare and next to impossible.
Really would like to see this feature added some day as I said would make a great easy way to back up and access everything that has been saved. PMS is the only server software I have used that does not have this option.
Thanks

+1… A local copy of artwork as well as metadata would be great. I’m currently using an external tool to do this.

I understand you are talking about downloaded metadata ( from themoviedatabase.com and the like) in this request, but if you did not know you can put your Photoshop created posters in with your movie files and the local Media assets agent will pick them up and always be auto chosen if it is enabled and first in priority.
Yes, I do that and indeed it works for my custom work.I understand you are talking about downloaded metadata ( from themoviedatabase.com and the like) in this request, but if you did not know you can put your Photoshop created posters in with your movie files and the local Media assets agent will pick them up and always be auto chosen if it is enabled and first in priority.
Hopefully my request is implemented and everything can be backed up automatically in place.
There are also other alternatives like pre-scraping with ember media manager and other software but it must be set up in such a way plex understands and then there's the issue of PMS not understanding .NFO files for metadata. Just be a whole lot easier and simpler having the option to backup everything in with the local files, because PMS is indeed a great media scraper. It just lacks this option that most other media servers have.

Yes, but we (the OP, myself and others) are interested in having the existing poster.jpg, banner.jpg, fanart.jpg, etc... be written "out" and back to the folder system from which the scrape was based.
So that everyone is on the same page, in many instances users have created their own artwork, assigned it to Plex for display, but never stored them locally. For example, one option in editing within the Media Manager is to point to a URL for images. Once done, that image is magically buried somewhere deep within Plex's data structure and almost impossible (for the average user) to find. Weeks, months, years go by and that image may or may not still be accessible by the original URL that was provided, so we'd like to be able to easily extract the images chosen, back to our own folders.
Not to muddy the water here, but perhaps even a simple checkbox that says "store to local folder" when it is originally uploaded. (Yes, I know we could have done a "save as" and then pointed to the file in the local file system, but sometimes we just don't do that, or the image we chose was scraped for us).
To me, the advantage to being able to "Extract" the current images, could also result in a cleaner, smaller, database. Why does Plex need to store 7 or 8 different posters, backgrounds, or banners for every movie it finds? Once I have chosen the one I want, I'd like to be able to "flush" the other 6 or 7, so to speak, and keep things tight and simple.
Just thinkin' out loud here.

Well said and Im sure a lot of people would love this option, but we just need more people seeing this thread.
From what i understand the plex team takes things into consideration based on the popularity, or amount of votes.
Please vote everyone if you would like this option added to PMS. Media Browser Server has this option and so should PMS.

You have to like the OP first post ..my post, for votes to count.
would you like me to change the title to this thread to something like "exportable metadata" or something else more descriptive than "PMS feature request"?

Good idea, change the full tittle to whatever you think is best and will help best describe it.
Thanks
