Is there a way in Plex Media Server to export/save Movie and TV Show posters locally as local media assets? If there isn’t, then i propose this becomes a feature request.
I am very picky about my media posters, and I typically change 90% of what Plex originally auto-selects. When adding local folders to a new media library I have to go back through my libraries and edit all my posters. It would be cool if there was a new menu option under the gear icon in library view to “export artwork,” which would give the user an option to allow PMS to save a .jpg for posters and/or background art to the local media folders (as poster.jpg and background.jpg, respectively). This way, after going through the trouble of hand picking all their artwork, the user could export all the artwork, and if they need to re-add the local folder to a library, the art will populate automatically from local media assets. Could be a good PlexPass feature?
Um, no, but there are plenty of apps out there that will allow you to do
what you are requesting. You should consider downloading movie related meta
data and or ratings, etc from the IMDB too. Why collect posters if you can
collect everything?
Could you please point me in the direction of a good one that pulls in metadata using similar sources to Plex that works on a mac? Would one of those apps be able to pull in just the artwork in the manner I mentioned above?
I still think it would be a really cool feature for PMS to have.
Whoa! I just refreshed this thread to make sure I was replying to the latest post, preparing to tell you about the many apps I’ve tried and deleted over the years, and how I just found the perfect one. To my surprise, it looks like we discovered the same app! After testing tinymediamanager myself on a small test folder of movies, I can report that it works wonderfully for my task (downloading posters and backgrounds), but looks like a powerful overall metadata scraping/renaming tool. Bad news is that I have to go through my collection of movies again, but the good news is that this should be the last time…
Thanks for your help bgower. For those looking on, consider the case closed. It would still be cool if PMS integrated this feature though.
Just wanted to throw out there another one which I’ve been using; Media Companion mediacompanion.codeplex.com/
Also I just discovered filebot, which can take a bunch of episodes, & match them against Thetvdb or tvrage then rename them with the correct season info.

I wish there was a way to customize the file names of the images, for TV Shows (Movies work just fine). I only see a way to set the names on folders & media files. The thumbs you can choose a few different options, but the posters and banners I cannot seem to have set within the program.
