PMS Filling up HDD

Server Version#:
Player Version#: 6.1 iOS

Plex has been a bit unreliable for a few weeks. I’ve not been able to access it remotely from the app. This seems to have been fixed by remoting onto the server, opening it using 127.0..1 and opening up the Remote Access section. This then seems to change from unavailable to available.

I tried to update the app last night and got an error saying that the HDD was out of space. I had a look tonight and Plex has created a lot of files and filled the drive.

Can I delete these files? And why was it creating them in the first place? How can I stop it from doing it again? Thanks in advance.

You can, but it’ll kill your Plex Media Server (PMS) Experience

This is where posters, arts, theme music, bif files and agent downloaded subs reside

You can’t

Haha! Thanks - point taken.

So I’m looking at a bigger SD card then for my Pi, which is simple enough.

In the mean time, I’ve tried following the guide and going to Advanced and deleting the video preview thumbnails, but nothing seems to have happened, and I don’t have any more free space.

Could I delete those folders, and then have it regenerate the artwork etc, but leave the video thumbnails unticked?

Alternatively, is there a way for Plex to store this data on an external HDD, instead of the system drive?

@Gamer127

Read the above “Moving PMS’ Library”

Where you place the data is immaterial – entirely your choice.
Just follow the instructions.

Oops, missed the link - many thanks.

Freed up 18Gb by deleting the video preview thumbnails, so have disabled that for now. Thanks again.

I’ll see if I can live without them for now, and if not, look at moving them to an external drive.
