PMS hangs during scanning specific library/folder

Server Version#: 1.32.6.7557

Hi all, my last server version was 1.32.5.7349 before updating to the latest public version.

Bear with me, I will outline my errors and the extensive troubleshooting I have tried over the past few days and will try to make it as clear as possible.

I am using this model of machine for my Plex docker container, running on Ubuntu Server 22.04.3 LTS, it has been running fine the last few months with zero errors until this latest PMS update.

I have 5 libraries:

  1. Movies
  2. 4K Movies
  3. TV-Shows
  4. 4K TV-Shows
  5. Anime

Each library scans from folders with a physical hard drive (e.g. Media8TB) and from a virtual rclone drive (e.g. rclone-TV-Shows)

Ever since updating to version 1.32.6.7557, I’ve had this error constantly pop up while manually scanning my TV-Shows library, it pops up once the scanning gets stuck:

Waited over 10 seconds for a busy database

The error may potentially stem from my rclone drive as I can add media via the physical drive fine.
However, my Movies, 4K Movies, Anime and 4K TV-Shows scan fine from the rclone drive.

Furthermore, the Movies Library scans the folders TV-Shows and Movies inside it and it scans fine. It doesn’t hang when scanning unlike the TV-Shows library which only has the TV-Shows folder and hangs.

Movies library = TV-Shows and Movies folder = scans fine
TV-Shows library = Only TV-Shows folder = hangs during scan

Also, when the scanning gets stuck, it makes ALL the media in my PMS unaccessible until I restart the container, I assume because the DB is busy?

Troubleshooting I’ve done (which hasn’t worked)

  • Restarted the container
  • Rolled back a version, rolling back seems to have the same issue now
  • Updated to the beta version, still same issue
  • Plex > troubleshooting > optimise database and clean bundles
  • Used Chuck’s DBRepair tool - automatic option within the docker container - all was okay, no issues or errors were outputted and DB was recreated and backed up
  • Attempted to fix my database via this method - nothing to indicate db is corrupt and was rebuilt fine again
  • Deleted the com.plex.x.x.x.db.blobs file and have Plex recreate it
  • Create new rclone instances - Plex still unable to scan TV-Shows but movies etc are fine
  • Create a new library and attempt to scan the TV-Shows folder
  • Create new rclone instance AND new library, still hangs when scanning TV-Shows
  • Checked CPU usage while scanning via glances, it looks normal
  • Checked if my files mounted in rclone are accessible outside of rclone and in… - yes they are
  • Deleted PlexMetaManager
  • and many more that I can’t remember off the top of my head…

These all output the error in the console logs constantly:

Waited over 10 seconds for a busy database

and also sometimes:

Saving activity history aborted with soci exception: sqlite3_statement_backend::loadOne: database is locked

but from my troubleshooting there is nothing to indicate DB corruption or a locked DB.
I may be wrong but logs have said otherwise, however I am no DBA so I may be wrong.

The last thing I haven’t tried is deleting the db itself but I am worried that when I rebuild, I will still be unable to scan my TV-Shows folder and so will lose everything.

I am not sure what else I have missed that I have not seen on reddit or plex forums, people seem to be experiencing the issues I have above since this last update.

Could somebody give me some other suggestions on what to do perhaps? As I am losing my mind trying to troubleshoot :sob:, reminds me too much of work.

I hope this reads well and is easy to follow.

I can upload my DB if that’s requested as well.

Many thanks!

You might try GitHub - ChuckPa/PlexDBRepair: Database repair utility for Plex Media Server databases Even thought its not a corrupt database those optimizations may help.

Otherwise post fresh logs and a timestamp of when the hang happens.

Hi, I’ve already used ChuckPa’s tool as I stated in the original post but today I let it run and scan the TV-Show library for about 1 hour and it proceeded fine again with no issues…

I assume the solution was all the troubleshooting I’ve previously done but who knows… I will post the logs for the successful scan below and may this post help others with the same issue (with what troubleshooting I’ve done)
