I have a PlexMediaServer installed on a MacMini M2 for several months, everything was fine until the last few days, the PMS application on MacOS exits without any error message, which disconnects all my libraries as well as connected users above.
Here are a few more details about my environment:
MacMini M2 PMS: Ventura 13.4
PMS : Version 1.32.4.7195
Synology for SMB storage: latest update
Crash time: Today around 10:30 p.m. - 40 p.m.
I retrieved the server logs and filtered by keyword with ERROR, and here are the last lines:
Jun 25, 2023 22:39:09.626 [0x17e7f3000] ERROR - [Req#143b285] Unable to find client profile for device; platform=panasonic, platformVersion=Unknown, device=Generic - panasonic, model=Gecko
Jun 25, 2023 22:39:19.300 [0x283e5f000] ERROR - [Req#143b39b] Unable to find client profile for device; platform=webOS, platformVersion=4.9.0, device=webOS 4.9.0, model=65UM7100PLA
Do you have any idea where it could be coming from?
I have nearly the same issue with my Mac mini (Late 2012).
Impossible to launch Plex media server since last update. It crash after some seconds.
I hope the the next update will fix this problem.
You are definitely not the only person with this problem. Plex is DOA across many MacOS installs (if you jump around the server-mac forum you’ll see similar reports) and the powers-that-be appear to be actively ignoring the problem.
If you get completely stuck you may want to try Jellyfin, I’ve found it to be very stable and refreshingly simple to use.
So I was having PMS crash randomly while watching or when I would connect to watch the server would just be gone. Also no error message and not much to go on. After trying several things I resorted to deleting the PMS preferences file and restarted the server. Since doing that it has not run rock solid for a week with no crashing or user disconnects.
First quit PMS then the file you want to trash is ~/Library/YOURUSERNAME/Preferences/com.plexapp.plexmediaserver.plist
This will not effect your library’s or content.
Hope it can help someone.
Following your message, I removed the preference and everything was fine until last night, the server crashed again.
However when I relaunched the PMS application, playback through the Plex client on the devices no longer works and I had this error message: “Conversion failed, transcoder stopped due to an error.”
Having a very similar issue, PMS is going nuts and uses all available CPU performance after a video conversion failed even if the conversion was stopped. Logs on console just show me: Unknown metadata type and kex protocol error type 7. Anybody who could help?
