PMS no longer removes folders from my file system

Server Version#: 1.40.1.8227
Player Version#: 8.34 (8140) {apple tv}
DSM 7.2.1-69057 Update 3

When I delete a movie or show from any of my libraries, the file is removed but the folder has to be deleted from the server manually. This has not always been the case. I did not make note of which version that this began but it’s a little bit inconvenient to have to remember to do this every time. I like to keep things clean and tidy on my server and this is not helping. Can you please create a ticket to fix this?

Johnny Holt

@johnnynav

DSM 6 would readily allow deletion.
DSM 7 is a completely different environment for us.

The permissions you’ve granted to the media shared folder (and all sub-folders and files ; which is important) will determine what it can do.

PMS is much more limited on DSM 7 than DSM 6.

If you can replicate this (server DEBUG logging enabled) and capture it for me, I’d appreciate it.

(I would need the logs to file a ticket anyway)

Thank you for such a rapid response.

While I realize the differences in DSM6 and DSM7, I will note that I have been running DSM 7 since it original release date in Jun 2021 and this particular problem only started within the past 6 months or so. However as instructed I have uploaded the PMS log files. Please let me know if I can be of any further help.

@johnnynav

Thank you for the logs.

I see in them where the scanner is running when you enabled DEBUG logging.

I do not see the “DELE” action message. Did you attempt the delete before enabling DEBUG?

Have you also attempted this using the web browser ?

I am actually using the web browser to run these test.

I have run the test again, this time I let the debug run a little while before and after the delete process. Maybe I was a bit quick to shut it down before. I hope this helps.

Thanks.

Now I see it in the logs

Is this what you intended to delete ?

The media files are still there ?

PMS has R/W to the share containing the directories ?

The empty directory remains?

It seems like there is a huge lag in the time stamp or something but the last thing I recorded and deleted via the web browser as a test was Fox 4 News at 9’ on channel 5. The media file was deleted but the directories remained.

The later records below were deleted manually via windows explorer prior to the event above so that’s kind of weird.

PMS has full R/W to the share containing the directories. One thing to note is that new directories that get created by PMS when recording new shows are owned by PlexMediaServer while prior to this problem all directories were owned by my user “Johnny”

I will recreate then submit my logs to Engineering.

I would think that empty directories are also removed but that might be how it’s designed.

If not written to remove empty directories, I’ll also request in my writeup to remove empty upon deletion.

Thank you. If you need me to test it once a fix a has been made I will be happy to do so.

Hello, I’m just checking to see if there has been any progress on this topic.

Just checking in again to see if any progress has been made.

Thanks

@johnnynav

I just went through this again. I don’t know where my ticket went but
I recreated in such a way that it’s impossible to not understand the problem.

I will follow this in this weeks triage meeting
