Ever since updating to the first stable release of PMS 1.41, the server runs fine after installation, BUT if I manually close PMS or restart the computer, PMS crashes on attempted run and will not run again.
The error I get is: Plex Media Server.exe - Application Error
“The application was unable to start correctly (0xc000007b). Click OK to close the application.”
However, if I reinstall, and launch on the last step of the install, it works! This is repeatable every time. It has also persisted with each subsequent 1.41.xxx update.
Been running PMS for well over a decade at this point, and this is a new one for me. Thankfully I’ve found the repeatable workaround, and I just keep the latest stable PMS install file on my desktop, but I would love to get back to normal ops.
Could you uninstall PMS and double check that everything from the install location is removed? Then reinstall again and try to reproduce the issue again.
Uninstalling does not remove your PMS appdata (DB, logs, etc), libraries, or media.
I’ll get to that soon and post an update. I was very wary about uninstalling because I was afraid to lose the appdata. Thanks for letting me know it will not be removed!
Well I just figured it out right before uninstalling. The shortcut I was using to relaunch PMS was (for some reason) pointing to an old 32bit .exe even though I’ve been running 64bit for as long as I can remember (best guess is I was troubleshooting some error with my OS upgrade and installed 32bit for some reason). Some of the files were still there (like the .exe), but not the full installation, hence the fatal error on startup.
So glad to solve this annoyance! And glad it was a simple “me problem” not a Plex problem.
