PMS OSX El Capitan - rescan and reconstruct the entire library when adding a new file

Server Version: 1.20.1.3252

Every time I upload a file into my plex shared folder (wd home cloud), my Mac PMS (el capitan) rescans the entire movie section as if it was the first time doing it.

This is frustrating, it start to happens with the last update.

Need help to resolve it.

Automatic updates are not always working with network drives.
This kind of behavior can also happen if you have all movie files in a single folder (instead of 1 folder per movie).

I understand that but this is not the case. each movie is stored in its own folder and this issues start with the last update, before that it was working like a charm

Filesystem monitoring is complicated, especially across different operating systems and network shares.

My guess is that the change isn’t related to the specific PMS version. If it is, that’s probably something Plex would like to know about. You could try the previous version to confirm.

It sounds like you have added more media, increasing the number of monitored items and directories. There’s typically a limit on Linux-based NAS systems.

If Plex is still detecting when you add media, I’m guessing that filesystem monitoring is still functional. If it’s scanning everything now, I’m guessing that you’ve encountered a NAS limit for simultaneously monitored directories.

I’ve found the problem. The update unchecked the Partial Scan function in the advance options. I’ve check it back and bum, working like a charm.

My drive has more than 2000 movie titles, 200 tv series and more than a 100 movie concerts - plex is handling it perfect, just that glitch at the update.

Thanks for the help! First time in 5 years that is needed the forum.

Excellent!

I’m a little bit surprised network monitoring is working so well for you, but glad it’s back working.

Yeah I’m surprise too, I read a lot about issues with large amount of data … maybe is something related with pms running on Mac … I remember had some troubles when using windows.

I’m not sure, it’s a mystery

Windows and macOS actually have some of the better filesystem monitoring capabilities. Linux is good too but by default it limits how many you can monitor at once.

It’s hard when network sharing is involved because it needs to be translated between devices, and you end up with a “worst case” combination of client and server abilities.

Sounds like it’s enabled on your NAS, and you’re still within the maximum # that can be monitored on it.
