PMS + Synology + 2FA

Server Version#:1.23.4.4805
Player Version#:

Hi all,
Hi @trumpy81,

a problem has just happened to me. I wanted to connect to PLEX from my safari version iphone (not the app) and I got this message:

Security alert
Another device is trying to connect to
your Plex account. You should only continue
if you know this device and have
intend to grant it access.
146.75.166.55 (Egg Harbor City, New Jersey,
United States)

I panicked and therefore wanted to enable 2-factor authentication in the plex options (via the web url).
I also asked to disconnect all devices and server.

And can you imagine what I’m going to ask you?

How to reconnect PLEX to synology server? I no longer have access to any of my devices

So I disabled 2-factor authentication but the server is still not found …

Shared with CloudApp

I’m scared there …

Thanks for your help once again.

Plz…Help…

:sweat_smile:

@ChuckPa do u have an idea?

Let me look around.

One minute please

EDIT: DS218+ or DS216J ?

Also , may I have your permission to clean up all the extra junk in there (duplicates) ?

Ds218+ @ChuckPa

@ChuckPa what duplicate content are you talking about?

You show a DS218+ and what looks like multiple (old) DS216J installations.

When this is done. clean that up?

Now , to look at what’s happening.

  1. It appears someone got your login credentials and you changed all that – forcing everything out.

  2. Upon starting Plex again, PMS couldn’t do anything because it has the old saved credentials, right?

  3. 2FA is’t going to be of any help with the server singing into Plex.tv (which is where I think this is)

  4. Are you DSM 6 or DSM 7 ?

@ChuckPa

  1. not sure if the person got the login info, by going to my plex login url got the warning message yesterday and logged in anyway. my login details weren’t changed.

  2. since I haven’t changed the connection info, I don’t think your guess is correct🤷🏻‍♂️

  3. so 2FA is useless on a plex hosted on a nas?

  4. DSM 7

to summarize what I did:

  1. I launched my login url.

  2. I got to the login page and saw the warning message.

  3. I logged in without problem.

  4. For fear of plex hacking, I decided to enable 2FA in the plex settings.

  5. by activating it I asked plex to disconnect me from all devices and server connected to plex.

  6. I logged out and i refreshed my plex’s web page.

  7. I reconnected via 2FA without a problem and saw that I could not find the server anymore.

  8. I tried it on the other devices, and it was the same.

  9. I tried to search the forum or on the net for a solution but finding nothing so I decided to stop the 2FA.

  10. despite the fact thay 2FA is stop, my server is still not found.

how do i find my server? is it hopeless? will I have to remove plex from my synology and reinstall everything? :persevere:

@ChuckPa
I don’t understand why you are saying that :man_shrugging:t2:…?

Hi @trumpy81
I don’t understand what is / was the trouble with my account?

About your process, i understand that i have to re build my plex library because all will be erased ?

The files will keep, is my MEDIA ? Or the files from plex?

Not a another solution less brutal?

The 2FA is the evil or what…?

@trumpy81 thks for the translation in french but i understand what you re saying.

Just, i dont see the trouble in my account :sweat_smile:

Next, i would like to have a confirmation of you that will be erased all my plex and that i will have to re build mannualy all my library.

:blush:

@trumpy81 you re a ■■■■■■■ genius ! :pray:t2::+1:t2::blush:

All is good. Thank you very very much.

About the warning thay i have at the beginning :

Security alert
Another device is trying to connect to
your Plex account. You should only continue
if you know this device and have
intend to grant it access.
146.75.166.55 (Egg Harbor City, New Jersey,
United States)

Do you think that i have to change my password?

What do i do to avoid troubles?

@trumpy81

Its ok i changed my password. The ip was not mine.

But i have to re restart the process by uninstalling and reinstalling plex.

@trumpy81
Ok its done.
Disconected on all my devices et reconnecting with the new password on my mobile and plex.tv/link on the other devices like ps5, connected tv etc…

Again thank you very much.
