PMS Windows - different quality sources - duplicate playback cause issues

Server Version#: 1.18.5.2309
Player Version#: 1.5.0.951

Hey guys, I have an odd issue. I have a 1080 & 4K version of a series (seperate folders on my plex server drive), and when i try play a 4K episode, i get 2 instances appear in playback dashboard, and that causes all sorts of artifacts and audio drop out. I also end up with 2 copies of the same episode on-deck. If i play a 1080p copy, then it plays fine again. If i try watch a 4K copy, it goes sideways on me.
Mainly watch these episodes on my Samsung 4K UHD TV.
I even tried renaming the 4K episodes with a -4K at the end, and still have the same issue.
It is as though when i start a 4K episode, it starts playing the 1080p episode at the same time, to the same device.
Any ideas??? Thanks!

Please post a screenshot of the Plex dashboard Now Playing section during playback of the 4K version. What you’re describing is probably your server transcoding…

Thanks for the reply, nope, it is not transcoding, it is in direct play. After upgrading plex this morning, it only shows a single now playing instance of the 4K version. But it is artifacting like crazy. Very random tho.
I screenshot my continue watching, and as you can see, it shows 2 versions. Checking the file info, the one on the left is the 4K version, and on the right the 1080p version.
Playing the 1080p on its own, the playback is fine. Only when i run the 4K does it go wrong. On my PC or laptop, i dont get the same issues. Only on the TV, which is a shame i cant watch the 4K version i wanted!!!

Please post a screenshot of the Plex dashboard Now Playing section during playback of the 4K version.

Continue Watching isn’t useful information.

Here you go, like i said, it is in direct play… and only showing a single now playing instance singe the update.
