Duplicate Stream, when playing 4K

Server Version#: 1.13.7.5369

Hello, All
In need of some help, currently running Plex on a dedicated Windows 10 machine, running server version#: 1.13.7.5369. I have noticed while streaming 4K, I see both versions (1080p/4K) of the movie playing at the same time on the server. Even tho the movie that was selected to play, was the 4k version of the movie.

Here is my file structure server side.
M:\Media\Movies\Movies (4K)\Star Trek Into Darkness (2013)\Star Trek Into Darkness (2013) - 4K.mkv
M:\Media\Movies\Movies (1080P)\Star Trek Into Darkness (2013)\Star Trek Into Darkness (2013).mkv

Plex (app/web/…) movie libraries

Movies
Star Trek Into Darkness (2013)
-M:\Media\Movies\Movies (1080P)\Star Trek Into Darkness (2013)\Star Trek Into Darkness (2013).mkv

Movies (4K)
Star Trek Into Darkness (2013)
-M:\Media\Movies\Movies (4K)\Star Trek Into Darkness (2013)\Star Trek Into Darkness (2013) - 4K.mkv

The 4K movie plays as normal. This happens with any 4K movie that i play. If it matters the opposite does not happen. Meaning when i play the 1080p version of the movie there is no duplicate showing. Any suggestions as to why this is happening would be greatly appreciated.

This is on purpose. PMS tracks movies by the movie, not the resolution, so if you have multiple versions of the same movie, we show both. This allows you to switch to another resolution should you desire. This is just for tracking purposes, only the one you selected is actually played.

That’s an interesting thought. Though using your suggestion of it being easier to switch to another resolution, can you tell me which one in that screenshot is for which resolution without guessing?

Yeah, that’s one bad limitation of this. I believe they are listed in the order your libraries are listed. So if your 1080 library is first, then the first image will be for that.
