I’ve been using Plex for some time but have never had satisfying performance. Not sure what is the issue is, is there some sort of “best practice” check off list one can use to ensure that playback is quick locally? This is what I’d like to tackle, before solving the remote playback (also a problem).
Anything I play back video wise, will take a long time to “start”, as well as a long time if I enable/switch subtitles. For comparison, I use Kodi on the same files (network share) and everything using Kodi (note - NOT Plex for Kodi) is instant.
I’m not sure why I can’t get the same behaviour using Plex backend. I use a mix of clients (Mi Box3, Shield, iOS app) locally and all have poor playback performance. If I use Kodi on any of the Android TV units, playback is instant, skipping back and forth is instant, turning subtitles on and off is instant - doing any of those things in Plex is much slower, and sometimes it will freeze the video with no recourse but to stop and try to play back again…
What should I be looking at/checking here, this is very frustrating. I’d like to get this working properly locally (100Mb/1Gb connected clients) before tackling the remote play issue.
thanks
