Poor video quality?

I've got PlexConnect setup and it plays the video files fine, only issue I'm having is that the video quality is horrible (pixelated and grainy).

Both PMS and PlexConnect are on the same server and connected to gigabit network (as is the ATV3). Video quality via OSX Plex is great.

I've tried enabing force direct play via the settings, but wouldn't allow me to...

Any suggestions?

Files are mostly MP4

Check you have the latest source.

On the ATV in the PlexConnect settings section you can change the quality profile, try upping it to the maximum.

Maybe I don't have the latest source as I don't recall seeing that option in the settings, I'll check again when the missues finished watching her show via OSX Plex :D

Thanks

Yea, turns out I didn't have the latest. Downloaded latest and picture quality is much better.
Look forward to seeing what later releases bring! Hopefully it will become possible to play non ATV native formats :D

IT already is, PMS will transcode them.

Hi all. I am having same issue with video quality being poor. What do you mean by downloaded latest and now it works fine? Cheers

Go HERE and download the latest version of PlexConnect.

I have noticed that I haven't been getting quite as good quality compared to the Mac Mini using Plex client.

PlexConnect also seems to stretch the content to fit it full screen, not sure if this can be disabled.

Overall I'm very happy with how it works, and surely it can only get better :D

May be a silly question but why use plexconnect if you're only watching ATV compatible files anyway? I don't see the advantage over iTunes.

Plex is EPIC, nuff said. lol. Also, I would have to convert every single file that isn't compatible to put it into iTunes, which would be hundreds if not thousands of files.

A lot of my files are not ATV compatible, and in my ignorance I initially enabled forced direct play, which of course caused the non atv compatible files not to play, I have since disabled that forced setting and am playing all files happily. My initial statement regarding the support of non ATV native files was, like a said, my ignorance in not reading further into setting up the PlexConnect app/script/etc.
I'm not entirely happy with the video quality though, especially with some older TV shows etc, they appear very poor quality, as compared to playing the media through My MacMini with Plex App. I have enabled 40Mbps transcoding and most new recording etc look fine, but still not as good as OSX App.
I do have my ATV running through my receiver and my Mac Mini direct to the TV/Display, I will hook the ATV direct to TV and see if that makes a difference.

not to bash on this but also itunes media organization is a pain, I have a lot of media spread over different locations, itunes won't "easily" deal with that.  plus I can stream my media outside my house with plex, cant do that with itunes.

Yeah totally get the streaming away from home part. I misunderstood the initial post. I was under the impression the op was using plex connect with solely ATV compatible files which I now see was wrong.

I have to admit I use plex for remote streaming and even when at home I prefer it on my iPad to the stock videos app but there’s a dedicated app so no work involved there for me

Each to his own
