Awesome idea, hope it gets implemented!
bump, this is mandatory!
+1
I’ve wanted this feature ever since experiencing/testing Emby… it handles collections really well. (but I always come back to PLEX
I find the need for this feature is highlighted further if you have experienced the latest PMP horizontal scrolling method… viewing a collection of chronological movies in a diagonal down, up, down, up order is not very logical on the eye or input selecting…
1, 3, 5, 7
2, 4, 6, 8
@mini.PLEX
I totally agree that Plex on Roku should have the movie order in Chronological order from left to right.

I believe emby does this; it’s rather cool, I think. The illustrations are very good.

It’s not currently available, but it’s something we’d like to be able to support down the line.
This was from https://forums.plex.tv/discussion/comment/693002/#Comment_693002 in 2014!?!?!?!
And it’s still not here yet. Wow, I wonder what the hold up is? More client apps needing to be developed before the device is even in the stores?
Come on guys… it’s past time for this…

Elan likes it, but what that means, I don’t know:

Very cool, thanks for the mocks!
It would tidy up a library somewhat, with being able to group movies together.
How is this not done yet? +1
I don’t know. Hopefully this year it will get added in.
Part of the problem is that people just put +1 in a post - Plex devs what you to “like” the first post. That is how they supposedly determine what features to add. Whether that is true or not I am not sure. This topic has over 200 likes and nothing has been done yet. It would be really nice if were to let us sort topics by Likes and see what they (Plex devs) are working on.
Yes, it would be nice if Collections were displayed along with Libraries, Playlists, etc
This would be amazing! This request has been outstanding for a long time (even before this thread), please look into getting a better implementation of Collections up and running.
Great request and mockups. I currently just use playlists for things like Star Wars, but this would be a much better solution. How do you think these collections should be accesses though? I’m thinking there should be a tab on the home screen below Playlists for collections. I can’t really think of a better way to access them. I also think that you should be able to Go to collection from a movie’s or TV show’s page (forgot what they’re called). That would be similar to how you can Go to movies or filter an actor or director.
I personally think that collections should be an item in the movie listings. Scroll down to Harry Potter, click on it and all 8 movies show up. Hit back and the main listing shows you just one icon for all 8 movies. Same can be done for Star Wars, Indiana Jones, etc… Yeah, it’s going to reduce your “movie count” but it also reduces the numbers in your scrolling mass of movies as your media increases.
It’s a sure fire way to clean things up. Having all of the Bond movies scattered around, based on names can get confusing. Or Jurassic Park, or Star Trek, etc. Cleaning them all up to a single icon which drills deeper to the individual movies themselves makes a lot more sense.
But speculating on how this comes about is something that is really not in our purview. It’s the Team’s decision how they are going to do it and when.
If you haven’t added a “Like” to the first post in this thread, your voice isn’t counted. All the +1’s in the world mean nothing if you haven’t added a “Like” to this thread.
@MikeG6.5 That’s a good idea. I remember thinking about it being that way before (and reading someone else that wanted that), but didn’t think of that when I was writing my comment. That would indeed make it a lot easier. There could be an option in the clients to disable collections if they didn’t want that functionality. I try to make all of my collections stay together when sorted by name (the default), so I usually end up renaming the Sort title if I need to (such as Harry Potter 1, Harry Potter 2, etc.) It would be nice not to worry about that.
By the way, MikeG6.5, it looks like no one can mention you on the forum because of the “.” in your name. Oh, and I did make sure I liked it. I try to read the pinned posts as much as possible.
Yeah, that’s been somewhat of a pain, but you can copy/paste, or r-click copy and get it. I know I get a lot of comments… No worries though, just seeing the name in lights is sufficient… Everyone knows who I am here, anyway… (The Plex Team throws a few expletives in front of my name most of the time, I’m sure…)

I do the sort title too. It gets confusing with the latest Batman collection. Batman Begins, The Dark Knight, and The Dark Knight Rises. So I have Batman Begins with the D’s.
This is easy from a client perspective. They just need a tag (tags for multiple) in the xml metadata each title. If the feature is enabled in the client you would have a hash map of collection names as the key and a list of members as the values. You would have to decide whether to show collections if their is only one member or just show the member as normal and hide the collection. Also what to do if a title is in multiple collections and one collection only has it as a single title(show both collections, show the collection with 2+ members and hide the collection and member, show the collection with 2+ members and the individual title but hide the collection with 1 title). You just need cover and background art tags to go with it. Client side shouldn’t be an issue. To me this boils down to a new table in the database, that field being sent, and the scanner that populates the field.
The sort title Bork’s for me with 9+ so I use A B AA and so on. Would love this feature as well as many more suggested here. Dunno qjy they’ve been so long implementing them.
All, if you haven’t already please go to above thread and LIKE the original post to vote this feature up as it’s currently only 13th in the priority features list.
I am quite new here…and I was coming (saw this discussion) in to suggest exactly what you have suggested. Love this idea and I hope they will implement it. I also have the Marvel stuff but also Star Trek, Babylon 5, etc… Fingers are crossed!
