This is a must-have for me. The filtering tool today does not cut it.
I actually had my thread requesting this feature closed as a duplicate, which is weird since my request was nearly a YEAR before this request… but thought I would throw it in since it is pretty much asking for the same thing.
how has this not been implemented yet?! Just added a whole load of anthologies and it just makes my library look messy, not to mention having to scroll passed several films just to get to the next normal film.
Surely this is a simple enough feature to implement and then update clients to show collections. In fact, the longer this takes, the more clients you have to update! This should be an easy win for @elan and make thousands of users very happy.
I currently have to rename all my media in PMS to be like “Star wars 1, Star Wars 2, etc” so it will show in order. Collections we have currently would work decently, if they were allowed to live in the Libraries with everything else, and have it’s own section I guess.
@boboki What I have done the keep the correct order of my movies, is the following “Movie Name - Year”. Example: James Bond 1972. However, “The Star Wars Saga” is the exception to the rule being that Lucas has everything mixed up.

I do the same thing, in the Sort Title field of course. For example, on the Star Trek movies, I have the Sort Title listed as Star Trek 01: The Motion Picture or Star Trek 07: Generations, then Star Trek 11 for the start of the JJ verse.
@boboki - In your profile signature. What do you mean all load balanced? Do you have Plex Server installed on all three machines and the Synology?
@kamererhouse yes I do, but it is far from perfect. We have been asking for YEARS for plex to get distributive transcoding (check requested features for that) but a few awesome 3rd party guys pieced together a working, mostly, way to do it.

Very cool, thanks for the mocks!
Make it so, then, please.
upvoted!
Come on Plex
What are we waiting for?
Would love to see this work for collections such as documentaries as well. A lot of the stuff I have is a mix of both BBC Series as well as one-off documentaries that won’t “fit” well under the TV Shows tag. Upvote!

Yes, PLEASE!!
Just implement the same “logic” Plex already uses for TV Shows, where a single show has episodes. In fact, if you refactor the code correctly, you can make individual items be a “show” or a “Movie”, and that will just tell Plex how to scrape and present the item’s data correctly. That will let you create libraries that can combine Shows with Movies, which would be awesome for things like Star Trek (which has both shows and movies), Firefly (same), Star Wars, a lot of Anime, etc. It should also be fairly trivial to look into the folder/filename structure with fairly simple regex to look for things like “SxxExx” in filenames and/or “Season XX” for folder names, and get it right automatically 99% of the time - heck, Plex does that already when scraping shows. You can just apply logic like “if show scrape fails then assume it’s a movie item”.
As for confusion whether to “stack” movies or “collection” them, that’s easy because multiple video files in a single folder that don’t have “SxxExx” formats need to be stacked into a single movie, while multiple folders with movies that share the same “collections” tag need to be combined into a Movie Set, then displayed with almost the exact same layout logic that Plex already uses for Shows.

Can we PLEASE see some traction with this? Is Plex looking at this? Is this on a roadmap somewhere, targeting a specific release?
I’ve looked at Emby, and guess what - Emby allows you to mix Shows and Movies in a single view. This is a big usability improvement for things like random kids cartoons. The only major thing keeping me from evaluating Emby very seriously is that their mobile apps aren’t very good (yet).
Thanks for implementing this.
Is there anyway to give admin the choice to choose collection display option per collection instead of library-wide setting?
For example, I don’t mind only showing collection only for movies like LotR trilogy. I actually prefer collection only view. But I don’t want to hide all the MCU movies when I create collection for it. The workaround is that I could create collection for each movies, Thor collection, Ironman collection, etc. But this is less than ideal for movies like Incredible Hulk where there is only one movie.
Another example would be if I create a collection that expands across different series/franchises and base it on director, actor, etc.
We could leave library-wide setting as is and all collections would follow the rule as default upon creation. But when you go in to collection edit, an option would be available in the Advanced tab.
Thoughts?

Looking into it but can’t make any promises.

That would be sweet…

this thing dead or forgotten?
