I was wondering if anyone had knowledge of the process needed to populate the “popular tracks” for an artist as I seem to be missing some key part of information here. Previously I was told and under the impression that the popular tracks data for an artist is populated via a matched album on musicbrainz that is then linked to its last.fm artist entry. Though I seem to meeting a bit of an inconsitency here.
For example, I have a matched artist called “Pink Suits”
Their album, “Political Child” is matched on music brainz (and has been for about 4 months now). However, their “Popular Tracks” entry is only showing tracks from their earlier EP and doesn’t reflect the stats on last.fm:
After everything is matched, I would expect a bit of a wait (in my experience, plex doesnt pick up music brainz changes for about a month), but 4 months seems a bit excessive at this stage. I noticed this used to work on previous versions, but have only just noticed that it doesn’t seem to be updating last.fm popular track info (at least for this artist)
Has anyone experienced this as well?
Does anyone know the prerequisites and conditions for us to pull down accurate “Popular Track” info?
Unmatch and rematch - album level
Unmatch and rematch - artist level
Change case to exactly match last.fm on both album and track Plex dance the entire artist, removing the cached data and completely reimporting
So far, nothing. I also noticed that some new artists now seem to pick up last.fm artist recommendations as a fall back, but this seems spotty as well
If I can get a clear set of prerequisites needed for a match to happen on popular tracks (along with recommended artists if my above suspicion is correct) then that would help
It pulls the popular track data from last.fm, but the conditions needed for this are a bit of a mystery though. For instance, the album I mentioned in this thread still isn’t pulling down popular track information, despite it being there on last.fm
The album is matched properly on musicbrainz, so we can rule out it not being a musicbrainz match. The tracks from their older EP are pulling in fine, so we can rule out an artist match. The tracks are in the same file format, so we can rule that out as well. I also have newer albums from other artists that are pulling that info down as well, so it’s not to do with the age of the lp.
To be honest, it’s one of the only things I really wish plex would give us, just a clear cut set of prerequisites and conditions for certain actions to occur server side, so I can design my library and tagging with that in mind, but as it stands it just seems like alot of guess work and waiting around for something to happen
