I currently have AT&T Gigabit service, but use my own router for in-house network since the wireless on the provided router does not work great. Now I am trying to figure out the port forwarding to get direct access from outside my house. I forwarded port 32400 on my AT&T router to port 32400 on my in house router (at least that is how I understood it) but I still cannot connect to the Plex server. Any suggestions?
Not the best at networking but if
a. The WAN IP your ISP-provided modem provides is a carrier-grade IP range https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Carrier-grade_NAT, you’re already 1 level of NAT away from the Public IP PMS needs. By the time you NAT again, you’re double (at least) at that point. The ISP will have to give you a real IP for this problem.
b. With two devices performing NAT, independent of the first problem, regardless of your manual port forwarding efforts, you’re introducing yet another… In this situation, one of them must be placed in Bridge mode (turn off the router functions). Suggestion, if possible to do, is put their device in bridge mode… Let it be strictly a modem. Let your router/Wifi be the router.
If you can make both happen… Public IP from the ISP -> modem -> Router -> computer. you’re good
ATT Modem is in bridge mode now, and my own router shows the outside IP as WAN address. I got my 32400 port forwarded to my server, but still can’t connect to the outside. Weird thing when I test in plex is that it shows green/connected for about a second before switching back to “Not available outside your network”
Did you tell PMS to use 32400 manually?
Also, no harm in doing a full restart either. Let the connections come up clean.
Tried both manual at 32443 and automatic at 32400. I am so confused as to why this won’t work.
Manually port forward TCP 32400 in your router as well as manually define 32400 in Plex Media server. Then test that your port is open at www.canyouseeme.org to confirm. If this still does not work, I will extend assistance via TeamViewer if you want.
Just tried manual port 32400 and still no go. If you want to do Teamviewer I’ll be all for it and very greatful!
Don’t feel bad. Windows 10 public network profile gets almost everyone.
Did this issue ever get sorted out? If so, how?
By changing the network profile from public to private in Windows 10.
