I’m trying to enable remote access and I think I’ve identified the problem, I’m just not sure how to fix it.
I have cable internet and a cable modem that is set to bridge mode. Connected to that is a Linksys router. All of my devices are connected to the router, including of course the Plex Media Server PC. I also have a manual port forward setup in the router for port 32400.
In the troubleshooting guide it says in order to identify a double nat one needs to compare the WAN/Internet/External IPv4 address and the IPv4 address shown by whatismyip.host
WhatIsMyIP.host shows the IPv4 address. When I enter that IPv4 address in my browser it takes me to my CABLE MODEM, not my Linksys router. I’m not sure what this means, but I think it’s what is causing the Plex to not be accessible outside my network.
First of all to identify, is it just Plex that does not traverse through the double NAT or do other servers that need open incoming ports (like RDP, VNC, Skype, SSH etc) not work either?
Secondly, if the server is not directly accessible through open incoming ports, it will try to tunnel the connection through the Plex servers (this is called Plex Relay, max 1 Mbit for non-Pass users). Does this work for you?

To recap: I have the cable modem set to bridge mode, I added a port forward in the modem, and a port forward in the router.
In Plex, I originally had it set up with “Manually specify public port” enabled. I disabled this public port and subsequently I got the green message stating that Plex was fully accessible outside my network. It stayed that way for a few hours but then became unreachable again. I did the same thing again this morning (first enabled then disabled the public port in Plex) and again it said fully accessible outside my network, but then after about two hours or direct connections became unreachable.
To answer your questions, other servers work fine. And plex IS accessible via Plex Relay at 1 Mbit speed.
As of now I am a non Pass user. I’ve been trying to get the direct connection working before I pony up the money for a plex pass.
