Possible to watch Live TV without setting up a DVR?

Hi - I have an HDHomeRun tuner, a PlexPass and a Roku. I have zero interest in the DVR features nor do I have a swath of media that I want access to via a Media Server.

I simply have terrible antenna service where my TVs are so I am running an antenna in the attic to the tuner and hoping to stream to 2x Rokus. Is this possible to do? All documentation is in regards to setting up a DVR along with live TV.

I was seduced by this image on their site:

You would have to run a server and Plex Media Server, setup the LiveTV/DVR part of it to then stream to your Rokus, using the Plex app.

Seems to me you’d be better off using the HDHomerun app on your Rokus to watch. Its not as pretty but much simpler for your situation.

OK - so there’s no way to do live TV w/o a server?

No HDHR app on Rokus. :triumph:

Which model of Roku are you using? If they’re newer, you might be able to watch channels from your HDHR using DLNA.

Install the Roku Media Player channel. When you launch it, you can go to devices and your HDHR should show up. Try playing a channel. If they’re older Roku devices, this may not work as they don’t support MPEG2.

Other than that, there is no way to do Live TV with Plex without having a server. Plex will need the ability to transcode the streams and that depends on the Plex Media Server.

Theyre newer Rokus - I’ll take a look. thank you noah.

That’s cool - I didn’t know this
