Potential fix for post password reset "Not authorized You do not have access to this server.." error

I posted this on reddit earlier and it is helping a few people. My PleX server is on Windows 11

After trying many things here like logging of and back into everything, logging all devices out from ‘Settings > Authorized Devices’ and reboots and many failed attempts to “claim my server”, I still got the error message:

Not authorized You do not have access to this server. You may be able to claim it by choosing “Open Plex…” from the Plex menu in the macOS menu bar or Windows system tray.

However I was never able to get the option to “Claim” the server and all attempts to claim it manually failed. I could see my “Movies” “TV Shows” “Music” categories and could see the name of my server but choosing any returned the same error:

To get to this point, I’m not sure what all steps I’d tried but nothing had worked.

So what fixed it?

I RDPed to my PleX server, I opened a file in ''C:\Users\“user name”\AppData\Local\Plex Media Server" called “Setup Plex.html” and instantly everything went back to normal.

After changing my password I had a similar issue. I installed the latest version of the server application, then double-clicked the Plex tray icon (Windows install) and that connected my local server to my account, which fixed the issue.

Thank you for providing working instructions after the official Plex instructions on how to get things back to working after their security failure have proven to be nothing but garbage and wastes of time for me.

Your solution got my Win10 Plex Server back and working literally by just opening that local HTML doc and logging in…

Plex, why can’t you all provide as helpful and straightforward solutions? Seems like y’all should be the goto for this sort of thing - seems like y’all should have communicated this out with the reset urging communications.

Actually, scratch that… Still broke - though, still kudos to OP for getting me into a slightly better state.

Now I can access my media as expected via the plex.tv web portal, but no other apps - all other apps show my server as offline…

Plex, do better. Or, perhaps, Jellyfin time.

I just hope someone from PleX sees this and is able determine why this works so that this “fix” can be applied to those having the same issue in other operating systems. I’m not sure anyone from PleX even understands exactly what is happening yet.
