+1 for having this setting server side. Plus it’s free advertisement for Plex… win win?
Any update on this request?

and it pre-rolls Goat/Mule Poarne to all our family and friends.
Well, that’s kind of stupid, isn’t it? It’s only going to pre-roll what you set it to. If you set it to pre-roll Goat/Mule Poarne then obviously you’re a dumbass.
This was a stupid example against it.
Once again, it’s my server. You were given access to my server for free. If I want you to see a pre-roll, whether it be my own server logo, or a MOTD, or a Dolby pre-roll like our local movie theater uses, or 10 seconds of me making fart noises, then that should be my choice. Because it’s mine. Not yours. I’m not twisting your arm to use it. I’m not forcing my collection into your device. You are making a choice to use it. If you don’t like my configuration, then Netflix/Hulu/HBO/etc is waiting to take your money instead of my free server.
Hell yeah +1 for this request.
Being able to post updates, maintenance messages as well for having a custom plex logo video. Maybe a merry christmas message aso…
Or maybe rick roll on 1 of april
+1 We should be able to set preroll and have the ability to make all clients play that preroll prior to their media!
Yeah, +1 on this. I’d like to be able to put this before the media I share with my users without having to tell them to “please turn it on”. Plus I spent a lot of time on my Pre-Rolls, and if I don’t know if people are even going to see it or not because it’s not on by default, then that also wastes my time. I’m with the users above that agree that since we’re investing in the hardware and the premium service, we should be able to have the ability to do this, not only from a standpoint of pride, but also as a service tool. It’s not that hard to implement, honestly, all it needs to do is default to on or make it library specific. If it’s set to on by default, then if someone hates it so much they can go look for how to turn it off. Or if you go long game, you can set levels for trailers and prerolls, and make it at the discretion of the user, but you have admin permissions. Like, if you want to play 2 trailers before your movie and a preroll, but someone who uses the library just can’t stand trailers, then being able to turn that off for them from your user list would be possible.
It’s not the end of the world if it gets turned on by default, and seems like a nice thing to implement for paying users who’d like to take pride in their library or notify folks of specific info.
And for the dude saying it’s “useless” when you have facebook, twitter, email, etc: seriously? What takes more time:
Typing up an email and sending it, then copying that over and to a facebook post (of which you have to answer comments or get harangued for access), then post it to twitter, but you can’t post it to twitter publicly or else everyone in your friends list will see, so you have to send it out via DM to everyone…
Or Having a stock of pre-rolls you’ve already made for service information, and then dragging and dropping the filename into a field and pressing save?
I’m guessing the second way is faster.
And since the feature is already there, it’d be even faster for Plex to simply switch the feature on by default in the next update. No need to reinvent the wheel when a switch will do.
+1 for this request.
+1 for this.
Pre-Roll seems completely pointless if each client needs to enable it.
As far as walking users through the steps on enabling this. I’ve got users with Samsung TV, Roku, iPad, and Chromecast. I couldn’t possibly be able to walk everyone through all the different devices.
+1 to enable this server side only.
+1 for this also. Currently the feature seems useless as it’s only forced on mobile clients, and the other clients simply don’t play it unless it’s enabled (and lets be honest most people never even look at their client settings). This would be a great addition to this feature, and is how it should have been implemented in the first place!
+1 for this. Should be easy enough. Some clients will always show the pre roll, and some don’t…
+1 This is the reason I’m logged into the forums today. I just spent a few hours creating several ~10 sec pre-roll videos to play for friends and family when they watch movies. The videos were made from home movies and I was really excited about the feature, and for people to see them.
I test it out via a browser player and everything works great. Then I try it out on my Roku and find out the hard way that pre-roll videos aren’t supported, and with no way to even turn them on.
Come on, Plex. The pre-roll video feature is pointless if it doesn’t actually work for people. Everyone I serve uses Roku or Roku-enabled TVs to watch Plex. Please enable this feature for the Roku app by default.
Ok sorry, found out that apparently I missed a setting and I can opt-in for pre-roll videos on Roku, so I’ll have to try that tonight.
But I’m still all for not having to opt-in for pre-roll… people who hate fun should have to opt-out.
+1. There’s clearly a lot of support for this. The prevailing opinion seems to be "It’s my server, my hardware, my time and effort, and if you want to access it (for free by the way) then you should be forced to agree to my terms.
There are several feature requests for this. When the new forum software was implemented, all votes were lost. So this is a good opportunity to consolidate all votes in a single thread.
I think this thread has the most discussion. So I recommend adding your vote to that thread by clicking the Vote button at the top. Feel free to make your case for the feature as well.
I would suggest a simple web page you point your users to that state server unavailable from 2am to 8am daily. for your case but I can see your point too
+1 would love this.
Bump! Let’s get this included
+1 +1 +1 +1 +1 !!! Isn’t this super easy for Plex to implement??
Come on Plex… PLLLEEEAAASE!!!
Don’t just whine - VOTE!
