Quite literally no harm at all done in enabling this feature, I don’t understand why they’re so against it.
+1 pre-roll is absolutely useless if we can’t force it on our servers users if we want to.

+1 for forced pre rolls or at least on by default. I am for any forced settings from the server side to its clients. It is how it should be.

I would even say the current implementation is bad for users, and an admin option for pre-roll would be better.
I’m an admin on my own server and also a user of my brother in law’s server. I just created a 4 second pre roll for my server that I want to see, and want my users to see. So I went ahead in the client and told it to show me one trailer before watching a movie. Now when I watch something on my own server it works great, but when I go to watch something on my BIL’s server, it’s going to show a random trailer that I don’t want to see because he doesn’t have a pre roll on his setup. So users who access multiple shared servers would have to go in and switch the settings on their client depending on which server they are accessing, and of course the reality is, no one is going to do that and instead opt for 0 trailers.
This could be easily avoided if the admin had the ability to force a pre roll in the server settings completely separate from the Trailer option.
Edit: I would echo the sentiment that a 5 second pre roll is a small price for someone to have to sit through in order to access media they would otherwise have to pay for. Like others on here, I set up and maintain my server on my own dime. It would be nice to have a reminder, before a user accesses that media, who is providing that service. I can see the practical side as well, using it as a messaging tool, but I personally would use it more as a way for the user to acknowledge my contribution to my user’s entertainment.
Amazing how judge-y and… angry… some people get, including Plex admins, asking for a feature…
So at the risk of being pilloried, upbraided, castigated, and told I’m stupid…
I would also like to request this feature. Is something like this really that offensive to everyone else’s delicate sensibilities?
I understand Plex is trying to keep its brand intact etc. In reality, Plex can’t control what I show my users because if so inclined I could hard-code (mux) in a pre-roll video on every video every day.
(In other words we are just asking to do with ease what can already be done with difficulty, and asking for a currently existing feature to be expanded. No need for judgment or tell others they’re misguided; provide the expanded feature, or don’t, that’s all.)

+1 for this. Just enable it by default, and if a user doesnt like it let them turn it off.
Unless it was a MOTD notice, then just display it once.

i just found out about pre-roll and how awesome it is only to find out users have to opt in versus opt out. i should be able to force users to watch a short clip before their movie. would love to have this feature.

God NO!!! please continue to allow me NOT to be forced to watch someones preroll crap. It’s wholy wrong for someone who shares a library to force anyone for any reason to watch anything.
I’m not sure if everyone in here understands the request. It wouldn’t be a Preroll made by plex or anyone else forced to watch or a trailer… the feature would be able to give plex server admins control over their server more. If I want my clients to watch a preroll before they watch my movies or shows then tough cookie. I like to use prerolls for announcements and such. If plex had an option to force my clients to watch my preroll before my movie I don’t see any issue with that. They could even go in and turn it off if they want but it should be on my default not off.
Plex has also made it extremely difficult to manage a large server since quality defaults aren’t even set server side. So everyone transcodes my 1080p videos by default?! That makes no sense. Major reason so many users are making the move to emby

Your server but NOT YOUR PLATFORM go find some other software then.
No but I do, your not a content provider and plex is not a broadcast system.
Why? How do I know you wont put inappropriate clips before 'your’ content - and its not really yours at all is it !!
Please move to Emby - your using Plex for all the wrong reasons.

You talk like your speaking for all plex users… Its is an ever growing platform that takes requests and listens to its users I am confident I am not the only one that wants this option.
This request is for an option. I dont understand why someone would be so against giving other plex pass users the ability to set their personal servers up the way they would like them if it doesnt affect you? You are not watching my content so you dont have to worry about it.
Speaking of Emby they have implemented the ability to push server side settings to the clients which would be nice.
Again this is not forcing you to change your server and how it is ran it is giving the ability for other plex users to set theirs up the way they would like them.

Plex is for home use.
Plex is not for institutional or commercial use.
I will also remind everyone that it is possible to define a pro-roll video today.

Well Since its already forced and it looks like no one knew - its a moot thread now IMO. Still think its a bad idea though.
Please more this to the feature request then. Also, I don’t see that pre-roll is forced as the next post implies. The directions in their support page: https://support.plex.tv/articles/202920803-extras/ call it out as opt-in only on the clients.
