"Prefer artwork based on library language" not working correctly since 1.41.9 on QNAP

Server Version#:PlexMediaServer-1.41.9.9961-46083195d-x86_64.qpkg
Player Version#:Version 1.109.0.329-ea562b95

I’m encountering an issue with Plex on QNAP, starting from the version:
PlexMediaServer-1.41.9.9961-46083195d-x86_64.qpkg.

The “Prefer artwork based on library language” option under Library settings is not functioning as expected.

Issue:

Even when this option is disabled, Plex still fetches localized artwork (e.g., Chinese posters) according to the library language, instead of the original movie posters.

This behavior was not present in earlier versions (e.g., -1.41.8.9834-071366d65-x86_64), where disabling this setting would correctly retrieve the default/original artwork.

I have confirmed the issue exists in the following versions:

  • 1.41.9.9961-46083195d
  • 1.42.0.9975-6b2b441e1

This is problematic for users who prefer original movie posters and do not want localized artwork.

Please look into this regression and advise if a fix or workaround is available. Thanks in advance!

It’s happening to me too, it’s so frustrating.

This is happening to me as well on MacOS, so it is not specific to QNAP.

I have the same problem from some time. Old movies has good have good posters so it was messed up since some update.

This docker app is helpful for now. It downloads poster in selected language from tmdb and fanart and can be set at specific time (just before overlaying by Kometa for example).

I think it’s time to start using local metadata.
