The new 1.3.0 update of November 23rd contains the following bug fix:
(Music) The music library created during setup wasn’t premium for Plex Pass users. (#5775)
Is there anyway I can look into the bug (because it contains a #5775 bug identifier)? I am interested because I’ve always felt my premium music libraries weren’t very different from normal music libraries.
Thanks for your reply. You have answered my main question perfectly!
Now for the premium music part: I do have options available like lyrics and Plex Mix, so I guess most of the music works like it should be.
Except that the Plex Mix option and lyrics do not pop up for every song in my premium music library. For example some rather ‘well known’ songs like “AC/DC - Back In Black” and “AC/DC - You Shook Me All Night Long” do not contain lyrics, whereas “AC/DC - Highway To Hell” does. It could be that LyricFind does not provide lyrics for those specific songs, but it seems a bit strange to me.
Additionally, I was hoping that a premium music library was able to determine some wrong music tags like ‘04 Queen’ and could identify it as ‘Queen’, but now the song shows up under the artist ‘04 Queen’ with just one song, instead of ‘Queen’ that contains all the other Queen songs.
Neither do I have any lyrics on those AC/DC songs, so it seems as if it does not exists on LyricFind - sorry to say.
As to Plex Mix, I might be on a thin ice here, but I think that the Gracenote feature “tags” your music and tries to find similar matches. Sometimes that works… rather well, sometimes… it doesn’t. As to Back in Black - I have three versions of it (Original, Remastered, Live) and only the last two of those get a Plex Mix option. I will try and get answer as to “why” - but I suspect that the technology behind it is just not “there” yet - and as it is a 3rd party I’m unsure how we can impact it.
edit: I spoke to a fellow ninja that has much more knowledge than me, and he sadly confirmed my fear that it is nothing “wrong” per se, but merely a lack in the catalog that Gracenote has. So your Premium music library is most likely working perfectly fine. It is just hard, especially with AC/DC for instance, that has so many different versions, editions, bootlegs etc etc so some so won’t get matched and added to Plex Mix. Hope your understand!
I already have disabled the Local Media Agent using the tags of the music files. The problem with the folder layout is that I have a lot of compilation albums that include different artists per album. For this reason I can’t use a folder structure that is based only on artists. I think I just have to live with this ‘problem’, and in case I have some time left, go through my music collection and edit the tags correctly.
Hi Otto, thanks for your help. I normally use mp3tag to tag all my music files, but as I still have thousands of other songs to tag (we’ve collected quite a big CD collection over the years) I would prefer if Plex could organize this for me, but I am afraid that’s not gonna happen. For the folder layout part; if I understand correctly I have to get every song of an artist that’s in a Various Artists-album and place it in a ‘album name’-child-folder with ‘Artist name’-parent folder’.
Same as with the tagging, this will take days to finally complete and if Plex changes their indexing algorithm all effort would be for nothing. To be clear, I think Kevv777’s problem is somewhat identical to mine. forums.plex.tv/discussion/comment/1122609/#Comment_1122609

The only difference is, that the name of the AlbumArtist is Various Artists.

No. The tags are stored within the music files themselves, and the proposed method of tagging will work with virtually all other known media players too.
The problem with the search has been mitigated in the meantime. I am able to find TrackArtists which only exist in a sampler album quite reliably now.
Of course you can still get creative with the name of your AlbumArtist and use something else instead of Various Artists. This is completely up to you.
