I am seeing the long scans as well. Every scan acts like a fresh, full scan whereas it used to be quick. The only thing that has changed was moving from 32-bit to 64-bit server.
Iām not seeing these slow scans, though if I remember I did re-do my libraries from scratch a while ago as Plex did a lot of changes concerning the libraries and I found it better to re-do them than change some of the settings. Itās possible that something that was changed a while ago doesnāt effect the 32-bit version, but has a big impact on the 64-bit version.
Maybe a good idea to copy a load of movies into a new folder somewhere and create a new library and see if that works.
Regarding slow scans, one behavior I observe is that library changes seem to be resulting in a full scan, not a partial scan. I have unselected ārun partial scans when changes are detectedā. Test 1 - will it scan anyway (which would be a bug). If it does not scan, then it is abiding by the selected option (as it should) and the Plex team can determine if the 64-bit version has a bug that always does a full scan.
I updated without an issue an Iām not seeing long scan time issue that others are seeing. I am seeing an issue with playing Dolby vision files on my Xbox Series X. This worked fine previous to the update, but now I am getting the standard Dolby Vision file error āāFile is unplayable. Color space is not supported.ā
Only thing that was changed was the 64-bit version Plex, I am looking at other things on the Xbox and TV to rule them out, just wanted to see if that could be an error here.
Thanks!
BTW - This did resolve the Plex server crashing issue I was having previously on the 32 bit version
Yeah this is bad. Been scanning like 5 hours now and looks to be about a quarter done.
Swapped to the 64bit version, install went smoothly and so far everything seems to be working smoothly and a touch faster. Thanks for the 64bit support!
Is there a new build for 5999?
You definitely have that backwards. If you tell Plex to not do partial scans, it will do full scans instead.
Thatās the expected behavior.
If you want to avoid scans at all, donāt trigger them manually and disable automatic and periodic scans in the settings.
64-bit just means more data can be processed at the same time. Video transcoding for example should be a lot faster. Basically, this was long overdue as now ur finally able to use what ur processor can actually deliver
Sorry, I was referring to nightlies ![]()
There is most definitely an issue with Windows Defender and how the scanner works with the X64 version. I will look through the logs later on both sides to see if there is anything there.
@OttoKerner I have gone back and set Scan My Library Automatically, Scan Partial ⦠and Scan Periodically. Observation shows it scans all of the Music library when I make a change in any artist subfolder. Question - could it be doing so because it assumes a change in any subfolder means all of the Music main folder needs to be scanned?
@anon18523487 Would you have a plan as to when the 64-bit version will move out of preview and into Beta so we can eventually expect future changes to catch up? I like the 64-bit but donāt wish to fall too far behind on features and fixes.
@Freemgl Often preview builds are ahead when it comes to fixes and features, so no need to worry too much and Iām sure the final build will be out in the open long before you have to worry about being behind. Also I think it has been hinted that one of the reasons for the push to 64-bit is a future big update coming.
Well I finally had my first crash on the 64 bit last night. It was truly fun while it lasted.

Looks like Relay got enabled and then went crazy. If you donāt need Relay, you can turn that off for now as a work-around. Iāll need to dig some more on what happened.
I do not have anything I can share about our release plans. If there are any significant changes, we will consider a new preview release.
@anon18523487 Any idea on the scan issue? My TV scan took over 24 hours. I rolled back to 32 bit but it seems like the 64 bit broke something because now all my tv library is showing up as unavailable and a scan is once again going incredibly slow.
We are looking into the slowness, but I think you have another issue as well. Did you try moving your media out of the root folder of the drive?
