Preview: "Universal" PMS build for macOS (a.k.a. M1 support!)

Will do.

Sorry for the question. I should have typed “How long for the Final Release?”.
Was not meant to upset you. My English is pretty bad.

I’m not upset, I was just confused by your question.

@anon18523487 New public build out today. Can we get another version to test? Any idea when this might go stable? Thanks.

Release updated in OP. We are getting close to this going mainstream. Should have some news soon.

Well crap. I was hoping to help you test and show screen shots. I was prompted to update via my AppleTV I did say not for now (Skip) as I wasnt ready to update at the time. had not been and taken screen shots etc. Now not getting the prompt. I did swear last update my AppleTV prompted me so I said yeap. and It was updated when I checked the version when I got to my server it said it was the latest. (I know the check update button isnt working if you login via a browser. But Happy to give this new version a go. You guys are doing good work.

Hrm - how so? Was there a splash screen or some other message?

I wonder if it was for a different Plex feature, rather than a server update.

It won’t work anyways. You need to stop plex and manually install this preview update.

Unfortunately today’s release has not fixed the issue introduced with the 2nd build for M1. I have tried downgrading to 1.26, tried a backup of my application support folder and no matter what I can’t escape the same error:

[Transcode] Streaming Resource: Reached Decision id=104322 codes=(General=2000,Neither direct play nor conversion is available. Direct Play=3000,App cannot direct play this item. No direct play video profile exists for protocol http, with container mkv, and video codec h264. Transcode=4002,Not enough CPU for conversion of this item.)

I had no issues with the intel app, and the first update for M1 was okay but still seemed to struggle. Once I installed the first update (manually) I lost the ability to play any content on network devices.

I did see there is a surprising amount of reports of 1.27 on mac introducing db corruption, the script to check integrity found over 30 errors but since I don’t have the same exact symptom I didn’t want to start down the path of reconstructing.

Any way to fix missing codecs? I have full logging enabled if I can share logs with someone (privately).

Check Settings → Transcoder → Disable Video Stream Transcoding. Make sure the box is not checked.

The “Not enough CPU” message is what Plex displays when it needs to transcode, but transcoding is disabled.

Look in Plex Media Server.log (and .1 to .5) for any ERROR - SQLITE3 messages. If you’ve any such messages then follow the support document to repair a corrupted database.

Repair a Corrupted Database

Example message. Might say “malformed image” or something else. Basically, ERROR is bad and you need to check your db.
Oct 20, 2019 10:25:27.220 [0x7fdc47447700] ERROR - SQLITE3:(nil), 11, database corruption at line 64817 of [bf8c1b2b7a]

Leave at debug level logging. Verbose adds too much info and makes it hard to read the log files. It also causes the log files to wrap quickly, and sometimes desirable information is lost.

Thanks for your help. I did have that check marked, and I had verbose logging enabled which I disabled. I’m seeing something that I hope isn’t as destructive:

Jun 21, 2022 18:39:21.209 [0x16b95b000] INFO - SQLITE3:0x24, 17, statement aborts at 57: [select * from metadata_items limit 1] database schema has changed

Nothing with ERROR - SQLITE3 however.

Your steps helped me make great progress! Thank you, I can now at least use the native Plex app. I can’t use infuse but that’s a battle elsewhere.

That particular message is normal immediately after Plex starts or when maintenance jobs occur.

The “not enough CPU” error is not a misconfiguration, it just appears sometimes and gets fixed when restarting PMS. So it is a bug. Had it multiple times so far.

The message may be logged for multiple reasons, including configuration issues, bugs, or, as the text of the message states, attempting to transcode with a CPU not up to the task.

You’ll need to restart PMS for this to take effect.

Read this comment I have about the database changes in 1.27.0. Plex Media Server (Mac) 1.26.2.5797 to 1.27.0.5878 issues - #27 by anon18523487

That’s a good criticism of the current Plex behavior. It would be great if the user message was improved, and if the logged message was more informative.

  • Not enough CPU (really)
  • Transcoding disabled in settings
  • Transcoding session startup failure
  • Venus in retrograde

I hope this will solve my problem, I can’t play 4k videos…

Server Version#: 1.27.1.5916
Player Version#: Plex App (xbox series X)

I try to play 4K 10bit hdr files and I have a lot of jerks, buffering, see its shifted etc…

I’m on Plex pass, the dashboard says, local, direct streaming, 35 Mbps (4K HDR10 (HEVC Main 10).
On the Plex app I am networked “proximity”.

Here is my set up if it helps:
iMac M1
Xbox series X
Netgear Gs205 ethernet switch
FAI : orange, livebox 4, fibre.

And I have no problem playing the videos in 1080p.

If someone has the solution I would be interested, I dry up a bit and I’m on the network, the ipv6 and upnp functions are activated on my router.

i cry all day
(sorry for my English im French)

I think this thread is about M1 Server build correct? If so, could someone please rename that to help with all the confusion? Or if it’s about desktop then rename to that. Thankyou.

What confusion? The thread is called “Preview: ‘Universal’ PMS build for macOS (a.k.a. M1 support!).” Everything you asked for is in the title:

“Universal” = M1 + Intel
PMS = Plex Media Server

It’s also got “M1” in the title, and it’s in the Plex Media Server category. How could it be less confusing?

True it does say PMS, damn these names. I take it back. PMS just sort of goes over my head and I see blur because they’re all so similar and changed quite a bit, but you’re right, I should have picked that up.

And by the way, the confusion I’m talking about is I see many people talking about desktop in server threads and server in desktop threads, I assume the same will be in this thread but don’t know as I didn’t think I should read a whole thread just to figure that out - though I may have read it before already - I’ve read quite a few to be honest. I want a desktop M1 app and when I go read those threads it’s littered with people saying here it is! It’s released and they they point at M1 version of PMS.
