Pro Week ‘25: Fireside in the Forum Question Submissions

I’m a big fan of the platform and have many questions. I’d love it if you could address as many of these as you can!

Can we expect design and feature parity between clients in the future? It’s frustrating to have different features available or unavailable on any given platform (e.g. rewind on resume).

Is there work to make the quality of experience for clients more consistent across the various platforms? Are some platforms planned to be deprecated? It was frustrating when first starting to use Plex to try and troubleshoot issues and find the online recommendations to be “just switch to a better device” (I specifically had trouble using Plex on my Xbox Series X, and then moved to AppleTV)

What things have you learned during the release of the new app experiences this year (mobile, Roku)? What changes or tweaks are you expecting for those platforms in the near future? How have these releases impacted the rollout of new experience designs on other platforms?

If Plex plans to implement features utilizing AI, will there be the option to opt out for users that don’t wish to use AI? Better yet, could this be opt in for those that do want it?

What is the mindset when designing new features or UI changes? Is there a focus to provide options and customization, or are they planned to be more prescriptive?

In the Fireside last year, there was frequent mention of things being “in the backlog.” Would it be feasible to have a publicly facing roadmap detailing what features or requests are being prioritized, and an idea of when to expect their release?

Is there any update on NFO file support for local metadata management? Will this be a native feature, or be something to come from the community using the new API?
