Problem Adding DVD Featurettes from TV Show

Server Version#: 1.23.1.4602 Running on an iMac with OS 10.15.7

Hello,

I’ve used Plex for many years very successfully and managed to find fixes or correct most issues I’ve encountered.

I have a library of thousands of videos of many types and have been able to always get them added and usable; sometimes after a little troubleshooting.

Just today, I tried adding a folder of Featurettes to from the DVD’s of The Office (US) in mkv format. I followed my normal workflow and added them to my folder of files for a TV library, but they aren’t loading at all on a scan. I will admit (hopefully with limited backlash) that I have not spent a lot of time naming them correctly. First, it’s a little confusing because they’re deleted scenes, webisodes, etc… that don’t follow a typical show naming convention. Second, I am perfectly willing to go through and edit those names as needed once I figure it out, but they won’t show up at all in the library.

By comparison, years ago I downloaded a fairly oddball Russian knife fighting instructional video that looked like it was recorded on a potato in 1947. Now in the library, Plex added it with no problem and somehow matched that to Kill Bill Volume 1 (comic irony). I can’t blame Plex as I don’t think anywhere on Earth has metadata for that video, but it was my first lesson in how to customize the metadata and all worked out fine. The problem here is that the video files won’t even show up as added to the library. I’ve scanned multiple times, restarted my server, etc… I’m not worried so much about if they all show up named and cataloged perfectly as I can work on that, but I just need to get them into Plex and can’t figure out any way to do so.

If anyone has worked with those specific videos and had success, I’d appreciate some help. Or if you even have a general idea of what can be happening that’s great.

My file structure is Extnernal HD → TV Shows (that’s the default scan folder). Then The Office → Featurettes → Season 1 (2, 3, 4, 5, 6, 7, 8, 9, Webisodes) → File Name.

You must be using the new Plex TV Series agent to use Featurettes, Deleted Scenes, etc folders.

Also, not supported across all clients. From “Local Files for TV Shows…”:

Note: Certain clients do not yet fully support TV extras but keep an eye out on our forum as our support pages will be updated once official support is available. Currently, the only clients that fully support extras at all levels are the mobile iOS and Android apps. Other apps like the Web client, Android TV, Apple TV and Roku have limited support while the modern TV interface for Smart TVs does not yet have support for any local TV extras.

Is Season 1,etc a subfolder in Featurettes? Not shown as supported in the documentation. See Local Show & Season Extras.

You can have extras for a given episode. The extra must be in the same folder as the episode and obey Plex naming requirements. See Local Episode Extras for details.

This was good information. I hadn’t seen that specific support article before. I experimented and it did definitely produce results. After everything mentioned it still wasn’t 100% successful for some reason, but I don’t blame Plex as its a huge varied amount of types of extras. I’m just going to have to pick between it being good enough or switching to its own separate Other Video library and not worrying about the metadata.
