SOLVED: TV Series Extras/Featurettes not showing on some clients?

Example:-

/Spartacus
  /Season 0
    /Behind The Scenes
      Trailer.mkv
      Arena Bloopers.mkv
    S00E01.mkv
    S00E02.mkv
    etc...

The odd things is, the extras/featurettes do not appear in my browser client when managing my library, my LG TV nor my Amazon Fire Strick. But they are listed perfectly on my Plex android phone app (shown as “Extras”)?

What am I missing?

I’ve tried various methods:-
https://support.plex.tv/articles/local-files-for-tv-show-trailers-and-extras/

The link above suggests ALL clients support the following approach?:-

/Spartacus
  /Season 0
    S00E01.mkv
    S00E02.mkv
    etc
  /Season 1
    S01E01.mkv
    S02E02.mkv
    etc
  /Featurettes
    Trailer.mkv
    Arena Bloopers.mkv

But still nothing appears on my LG TV or PC client browser?

FIXED

Right, this approach works across all clients, with the extras being shown in the root series page (not per season etc):-

/Spartacus
  /Season 0
    S00E01.mkv
    S00E02.mkv
    etc
  /Season 1
    S01E01.mkv
    S02E02.mkv
    etc
  /Featurettes
    Trailer.mkv
    Arena Bloopers.mkv
    Season 1. Featurette.mkv
    Season 2. Featurette.mkv
    etc...

But what was tripping me up is rescanning your TV librabry does NOT find the featurette files you’ve added. You need to refresh metadata!

Also, anything in subfolders in Featurettes IS IGNORED.

Right at the top of your linked article is a table, which informs that season-level extras are not shown on Web or TV.

Indeed, and I acknowledged that in the OP and stated which approach was suppose to be compatible with all clients.

Seems the issue was down to:-
a) Sub folders in the Featurettes folder are ignored. ie: Your extras have to all be directly in the series/featurettes folder.
b) Videos in Featurettes folder are only picked up by a “Refresh Metadata”. Rescanning the library does not.

Yes. That has always been the case. Extras are considered meta data in the Plex world.

Maybe so, but unless you know that, then you don’t know that. I’ve used Plex for many years, and this is the first time I’ve ever hit this problem.

Indeed, I have lots of Extras/Featurettes on existing tv series and existing films, and I’ve never done a “Refresh Metadata” before for this sort of scenario. I suspect, if the files in question happen to be in the right place/format from the outset then they appear.

ie: A comment on the page linked in the OP regarding this formatting, suggesting doing a “Refresh Metadata” if you are changing the format/location of such files would be most useful. - https://support.plex.tv/articles/local-files-for-tv-show-trailers-and-extras/

I think this is a very good idea. I will forward this to the right people.

Thanks…

Yeh, I went through that article a number of times, and if it had simply mentioned somewhere that “Refrehs Metadata” is what can absorb/update the structure in Plex, it would have saved me a lot of time/hassle

@NeilF , thank you the Refresh Metadata is was resolved my new addition of Featurettes to my show. Thank you again for that and old that 1) Scan library adds the new episodes but not the Featurettes (or it does, but additional step also needed to update the show completely). 2) Hit Refresh Metadata to see new additional Extras added to the show.

Yeh, it’s not intuitive. So if you’re adding/altering Featurettes etc, you’ll scan, scan and scan again wondering why it’s not working.

It’s not until you find out “Refresh Meta” is what actually updates it, that you finally know how to update it properly.

It’s nice to see the suggestion to add this information to the the notes about the feature has been done - https://support.plex.tv/articles/local-files-for-tv-show-trailers-and-extras/
