Problem streaming from remote plex server on AT&T Uverse Gigapower

Anyone have any updates on this issue? Just switched to gigapower and plex is definitely blocked… very frustrating.

My remote access is still working fine after the process outlined above. Could you give some more specifics about your setup? (i.e. are you running your own router behind the AT&T provided gateway or just their modem, what gateway did AT&T give you Pace 5268ac or NVG589, do you leave the server PC on all the time etc.) It did take me the better part of an afternoon to get mine working, the part that I thought I screwed up on was on step 3 above. It took freaking forever to reboot, and even when I had the “Service” light illuminated on the Pace router I didn’t have internet for a few minutes. Another thing to note is that when you get this up and going, you may have to kill and restart the client app(s) that are connected to the server to re-establish a remote connection. I know that this was the case for my in-laws using their Amazon Fire TVs connected to my server.

Sure I am using the arris bgw210-700. I would like to run my own router but is so complicated to put this modem into bridge mode and it looks like a really good router… wish I could use it. What is actually causing it to block Plex ?

Dedicated server for Plex and all worked fine with spectrum . Just switched to art and doesn’t work at all.

Has anyone made the process described by brucestephensrx work successfully? Based on what I read from various other posts on the web I have tried something similar but no matter what I do I can’t make it work.

Well today I thought I’d talk with AT&T to see if they could provide any insight into the issue. That turned out to be a huge mistake - the first support tech spent an hour and half trying to understand what I wanted and then proceeded to reconfigure my AT&T router so that I totally lost the ability to access the net. The second support tech hung up on me and the third offered to fix the problems that they had created if I paid them $15 per month!

I eventually restored my network configuration back to what it was prior to talking with AT&T but all in all it was a very frustrating 4 hours that didn’t take me any closer to making remote access to my PMS work successfully.

If it helps; my AT&T gateway is a Pace 5268AC and my personal router is an Asus RT-AC66U. I have placed the Asus router in the DMZ of the Pace router and turned off all of the wifi on the Pace too. I’ve set up a Port Forward rule within the Asus router to forward the relevant port (32400 TCP) to the machine that hosts my PMS.

Any help or feedback would be much appreciated!

Did you set up a static IP address for your media server? That or possibly a difference in the router firmware that isn’t allowing the port to be forwarded correctly. I have the Pace 5268AC and a Netgear Nighthawk R7000. AT&T definitely does some sort of throttling on their end even with remote access up and running. I have a few family members that have experienced buffering on their end. The message “Your connection to the server is not fast enough to stream this video. Check your Network.” has appeared a few times. The solution is to pause the media for about a second or so and then hit play and it buffers the rest of the way with no problems.

I was able to get this process to work for me with only a minor alteration on the AT&T PACE modem. I did not make any alterations to my extended router. I am using Plex Server Version 1.14.1.5488. The following commands are run under the Settings/Firewall/Applications, Pinholes and DMZ menu on the PACE router. Make sure you have given your Plex Server a STATIC IP first. Then navigate to the menu above and scroll down to the bottom of the page. You will need to create 2 User-Defined Applications. Follow the directions below:

  1. Plex UDP, select UDP as the setting and the port number to 32400 (assuming you are using the manual port setup)

  2. Plex TCP, select TCP as the setting and the port number to 32400 (assuming you are using the manual port setup)

Now, after you have created the two apps, type in the ip address supplied by your uverse wireless connection. By default it is a 192.168.1.x number. Put that number into the box that says “Enter IP Address”. This is in the firewall/Applications, Pinholes and DMZ tab

Once you select that IP scroll down and select the user-defined list, you should see Plex UDP and Plex TCP, select them both and then add. Save your changes.

Go back to your plex server and disable Remote Access. Start it again. I then had to click on Apply twice before before the route was green. You should now see that the server is mapped and no error message.

This may have gotten off from the OP, as the issue is with Remote Streaming from OTHER PMS sources. I have I have a user in the same boat - they have ATT 60 symmetrical and cannot stream from my PMS about 1.5Mbps or so. In my troubleshooting, I have changed the port on my PMS and it will allow higher streams, but then it is as if ATT catches on and then throttles that port. All that being said, does anyone have experience with using ATT service to Remote Stream from a share PMS source?

This sure did get off topic. It started off with OP saying he couldn’t stream data from a Plex server that was remote to a bunch of people that couldn’t get NAT to work on AT&T.

That being said I share my Plex with my father who is on AT&T 75mbps and it buffers all the time, but emby is fine using the same source server. Looks like AT&T is doing something here.
