Problem with DNS

Hi all,

I'm having trouble with DNS server set on ATV. Everything works brilliantly but after some time (usually next day or so) ATV loses all internet access including Plex on my home network. When I change DNS to automatic then internet is back on ATV and when I change DNS to Macs IP then Plex is also back. How to make it all more stable? Last night everything worked. This morning again no internet and no Plex (log below). Although this morning the DNS was the same as my Macs IP. But changing DNS to automatic fixes internet and then changing it back to the DNS it was before gives me back Plex.

Ok I finally found a way to reserve IPs by mac address and so I reserved current IPs for my Mac and my ATV. Let's see...

I have the exact same problem with my ATV 3 , What can i do or should try?

It was actually a temporary fix for me. From time to time everything works fine and then suddenly no internet on ATV. When I change DNS on ATV to automatic then it gets internet access. Change DNS back to what its supposed to be and nothing works again.

Probably it will work tomorrow or day after tomorrow without me changing ANYTHING. 

Does anyone have any idea what this could be? Would greatly appreciate your views on this..

This has nothing to do with your atv. Something is messing up your ports on your system.

You have to figure out what is occupying port 53.

Thanks. This probably sounds stupid, but where do I begin with that?

Start by In terminal type this:


lsof -i :53


That will list what’s on 53

In the meantime it started working again so I guess I need to wait until it stops to test whats on 53. At the moment this line gives me nothing at all.

I have what might be the same problem.  I set up Plexconnect on my Mac and ATV3 and everything worked great for a week or so with a reserved IP address on the Mac.  I went on vacation for a week and when I came back the ATV had lost its internet connection.  The only icons showing up were "Computers" and "settings".  I switched DNS back to automatic and it reconnects to the internet and all icons are back but no Plex.  I put it back to manual and the Macs ip address and lose the internet again. I thought maybe that plexconnect had turned itself off after the Mac was rebooted but that does not appear to be the case as I reinstalled the launch daemon but it said it was already installed so presumably  had restarted itself.  I don't seem to get a few days with everything working again as suggested in a post above.

Any ideas.
