ATV connects to the wifi, if I leave the DNS as automatic it works fine, but when I change the DNS to the server where I’m hosting PlexConnect, it doesn’t connect to the internet and thus won’t show up the Trailers icon.
I’ve turned Windows Firewall off (Win 7 64-bit) and tried changing the IP address and added port 80 exceptions to my router.
It’s been working fine for the last couple of weeks and last night decided not to work.
Any clues? Thank you.
Set your network to Automatic, then change the DNS to your host machine. Even if you run a fixed IP on the server, sometimes the IP address changes. Check your Python window, it will say what IP is being used. Is your python window running? I had originally set up on a Windows 10 system, and the Python log window does not show. So I’d never know when plexconnect had stopped, which happens sometimes. Those are the two main failures I get, plexconnect stopping (or Python crashing), and my IP changing. Check both of those. Also, have you reset your ATV3? That will delete the certificate and you’ll have to copy it back into the ATV.
One other failure is that your Plex Server is not sending to the internet. Make sure it is. Finally, make sure your internet service is not down, if it is down, you will get exactly what you are describing: all you will see is your Settings icon and Home icon on your ATV, until your internet service is back up.
