Problem with HW optimization and the size of the resulting file

Server Version#:1.40.5.8897-e5987a19d-x86_64.qpkg
Player Version#:1.99.0.210-2d92b948
Hello,
Since the last plex update : v.1.40.5.8897-e5987a19d.
I have encountered a rather fundamental problem. I’m using Optimization (HW conversion). for movies and it’s at 12Mbps, using plex.
Now Plex does this, it absolutely does not respect the bitrate and when optimizing the video, it decodes the original mkv with a size of 10GB to 50GB Mp4… Last movie that had 3GB in mkv from it plex with the setting of 12Mbps optimization made a 46GB file… This problem is not solved even in the latest beta, which when I found this problem, I immediately installed and hoped that it is fixed… . I also use plex for remote viewing and currently it is not usable because the image what should be decoded is of crazy quality… before everything ok with version 1.40.2.8395-c67dce28e-x86_64.qpkg.
Plex has been running on a Qnap TS-664 for years.
Do you know about this? What is the solution?

investigating now.

The transcoder command line confirms the bitrate is specified as well as the HW transoding

Even now I tried version 1.40.3.8555
and that’s fine too. On a 9GB MKV it will do almost the same size at 12Mbps.
But other versions up to the new one all in the extremes of xxGB.
I will add, on the same mkv file tested

I only noticed it by accident when I started to lose TB of space in NASU…

Unfortunately, at 20Mbps, this movie, I cannot replicate.

Might it be possible to get a set of DEBUG server logs ZIP file which captures this?

under version 1.40.3.8555 I have now optimized four movies and they all have either the same GB or less compared to the original MKV which is fine.

DEBUG? Please share how to proceed and I will send the debug.
I assume install the latest version and run the optimization and after it is done, download the debug .zip?

In Plex/Web
On the right corner (top)

Settings → (left side) [ServerName] → Troubleshooting (lower left) - Download Logs.

That will give you a ZIP file.

Hopefully they are DEBUG level

I’ll do two Debug with optimization. the version where it worked last time and then a new one where it doesn’t. So you can compare, the mkv file will be the same. For each version I will write you what size it was at 12Mbps after optimization.
I’m working on it now.

Version: 1.40.3.8555 - optimized for 12Mbps
19.7GB MKV Plex converted to 6.9GB mp4
Version: 1.40.5.8897 - optimization to 12Mbps - did not run fine. 19.7GB MKV Plex converted to 22.6GB mp4

initial name of the source mkv - Monsters.vs.Aliens.2009

good day, does anyone solve this problem?

Hello, even with version 1.41.0.8994, this bug is not fixed and persists…
