Problems playing hevc main 10

Hello community,

I want to understand why plex player can not play hevc main 10 videos correctly. The colors are messed up.

I am running that same video on MPC and it is working just fine ! My GPU supports HEVC decoding (Radeon 6900XT)
Is there anything I can do to make it work? Or simply it does not support?

Thanks,

JP

Are you sure it’s because of main 10 and not hdr? If you direct play an hdr video on a device that doesn’t support it, you get messed up colors like you describe. To fix this, you’ll need to turn on hdr tone mapping in your server settings.

Thanks for the response.

The thing is: I am running that same file on the same computer with MPC and it is working perfectly. I ran this on Plex Media Player(Server) and also on my Sony TV. Same results.

I have tone mapping enabled already as hable.

Thanks again,

JP

Which specific Plex player app are you using? And what version?

Current options (on PC) are Plex Desktop (Windows/Linux) or Plex HTPC (Windows/Linux). These are available for Macs as well. Or are you referring to the web app via a browser?

I ask because “Plex Media Player” is a now very old and no longer developed app and was replaced by the separate desktop and HTPC app I mentioned above.

HEVC is definitely supported by both of the apps above (desktop and HTPC). Your mileage may vary if you’re using the web app as playback will be determined by the browser’s capabilities.

Also, please post the XML info (the first 40 lines or so) of a file you with which you are experiencing issues.

I am sorry … I use Plex for a very long time
I am on Plex for Windows Version 1.109.0.329-ea562b95

XML is not showing up here …. it is black.

I just tried to modify the quality and I am getting:

File is unplayable. DoVi (Profile 5) color space is not supported.

Thanks again,

JP

Plex cannot transcode Dolby Vision for licensing reasons. And because this is profile 5, there is no HDR10 fallback.

Thanks for the explanation !

Unfortunately, none of my devices support DV.

I will have to skip those then.

Thanks again !

JP

I suggest you try to avoid DV files. I assume you can configure Radarr to specifiy to avoid DV files. I assume, but I don’t use it myself, so I don’t know for sure…

Yeah ! I googled about it and found the way of doing it.

Thanks !
