Unable to DirectPlay 10bit HEVC 1080p with Plex HTPC, works fine with PMP on the same computer

Server Version#: 1.24.5.5173
Player Version#: Plex HTPC 1.19.1.3076 / PlexMediaPlayer 2.58.0.1076

I’m having lot’s of issues playing 10bit HEVC 1080p files with Plex HTPC, but it work perfectly with PMP!

  • Context:
    • On PMP I can play the file fine, without issues
    • On HTPC I cant even start playing the file
      • Most of the time it freeze the player, and I have to kill in on the TaskManager
      • Other time it wont start at all (black screen) and even if the palyer is not dead, if i try to start another file it will not work, need to kill the player to go back to normal
    • Same file
    • Same computer
    • From the same server
    • Direct play (Using transcode works, but the fiule direct play perfectls on PMP, so I have no reason to assume HTPC can’t do it)
  • What did I already tryed:
    • Change pretty much all availeable video setting
    • Updating the drivers + Firmware (running on an INTEL NUC)

PS: Can’t really update the Server as version past the 1.24.5.* are really unstable

Plex HTPC.1.log.zip (19.6 KB)

Huh ?

I am running the latest public version (1.27.0.5897) and perfectly stable.

I also just played two 10 bit HEVCs 1080P via Plex HTPC and they played without issue. I don’t even have special settings.

For Plex staff to troubleshoot you will need to upload logs.

Unfortunately this is not my experience, but it’s off topic.

I have upload the logs on the orriginal post, I can reproduce 100%:

  • Start Plex HTPC
  • Select episode partialy watched
  • Try to play
    • Black screen
  • I can hit ESC and exit the application but in fact the process is still visible in task manager and will stay there untill i kill it.
