Problems with two or more episodes combined into one file (cartoons)

Server Version#: Any (currently 1.31.0.6654, usually up-to-date but happens on all versions)

Hello!

I can’t be the only one with this issue, but episodes are marked as played incorrectly on anything but Plex Web. Entire cartoons will play twice, and it is an issue that has been following me and my family around for more than a year. This isn’t an issue on merging, it’s because two episodes have been combined into one file.

I already know how to split a file. The problem is that this is on thousands of episodes, and I don’t have all week to be doing this. Is there a way to fix this in Plex, or is there software to split the file based on blank/black frame detection? I have looked around already, and while it does seem to exist everything I’ve found seems to be old and broken.

Example file path and name: “Media/TV Shows/Linux/History of Linux ISOs s01e01-e02.mp4”
Everything is MP4 H264/H265, but can be converted to MKV easily if needed with FFMPEG.

Thanks!

Avidemux is what I use, fairly easy and can split a file in a minute or two. Uses black frame detection.

I had to download a video file because I’m not home, but I’ve explored the software and have some understanding of how it works. Is there a way to automate it, or do you just do it one episode at a time?

Because video splitting isnt an exact science I always do it manually. I get somewhere simi-close to where the episode spilts and then use the next black frame button to search.
