I wanted to know what the correct process is to have an official channel's features updated. I created the Reddit Videos channel about a year ago, and two of the requests I had a lot of users ask for was the ability to store their own subreddits and sort videos by new and top in addition to the default "hot." I've added those features to my version of the channel at https://github.com/seagullcanfly/RedditVideos
I'm new to github and programming, so I tried sending a merge request but that might be wrong. I also emailed the person in charge of new channels, but I haven't heard back though it's only been two weeks. Maybe what I did was sufficient and everyone is just very busy with more pressing Plex needs, and I totally understand that, I just wanted to make sure there isn't something else I should do in order to see the changes implemented in the official Reddit Videos Plex channel.
It sounds like you’re following the appropriate steps. One difference which can be a little confusing/frustrating for people is that it’s generally encouraged to fork the “official” Plexinc-plugins repo of the channel and submit a pull request against that. When you’re the original author, that often means deleting your original repo before forking from Plexinc.
The idea is that then no matter who is making contributions, they only need to worry about forking from the “official” repo and not whether the original author’s repo is considered more or less official than the plexinc-plugins one.
That all being said, if you submitted your patch via a fork of the Plexinc repo, then it may just not have reached the top if the pile yet. If your patch was submitted in another way, I would suggest re-submitting it in the “proper” way. It will likely get processed more quickly that way. If you’ve been waiting a week or two without response, it doesn’t hurt to ping @sander1 in a comment on the pull request via GitHub. Opening a dialogue to check if there any tweaks or issues that need resolving prior to merging helps keep communication flowing.
