ProjectM (Milkdrop) Music Visualizations?

Curious if there is any chance whatsoever of this happening, considering the recent focus on the music side of things today (Tidal, etc.)

The most recent thread on this particular topic is here, and I hate to see that be the end of it. If it’s not already an existing feature request, I’d really like to see it be added, but I understand if it’s not feasible. Thanks for your time.

We’d love to bring the Plexamp visualizers to other apps, and we’ll also be releasing an update to Plexamp which supports TIDAL (and Podcasts).

So not exactly ProjectM specifically, but visualizers…

It would be very nice to have projectM - or at least SoundSpectrum ones - or at the very least something like Alchemy from WMP.

It is particularly usefull when listening to music through Chromecast. Sometimes it is nice to have cool and somewhat random visuals as a background when working on the laptop instead of a static album cover switching places with the song’s name.

I tried the Plexamp visualizers but they are so basic and barely react to music - not speaking of the lack of customization/randomness - that even if they were included elsewhere, I would prefer having the album cover…

I don’t know what are Plex’s priorities. I’ve been using Plex for some weeks and I’m happy with it (Used it to stream movies/series/music and I only experienced account invitation issues). But please (re)consider this integration even if it must require the Plex Pass.

I am really interested in this as well. I love dimming the lights, pouring one, and setting up some good tunes. I’m just not a fan of a static Image on the screen. A visualizer, or growth for open source visualizer plug-ins, allow so much flexibility with Plex as an audio player.

Also, the static screen is an instant no-go for my OLED with potential for burn-in, so Plex on the screen doesn’t work for me as an audio player in that use case and currently makes me look for alternatives.

any development on this?

Bump. Additional vote for this very useful feature to have on TV version(s) of Plex.

Wow, a visualization like milkdrop would be awesome on Plex, or at least something that is as ‘reactive’ to the music played.

I’d like to bump this. Our TV is a plasma screen, so can’t have the same screen contents for too long. Alternatively, picture slideshows would do the job too. But something interactive like Milkdrop but look sooooo much more interesting.

Or like a rotating Vinyl or something like that, would be visually pretty cool.

A cool music visualizer is extremely important in my opinion. I spend a lot of time in the studio, listening to music a lot, and a visualizer helps set the mood. It’s ridiculously essential to those who really enjoy listening to music and spend a lot of time listening to music. Also it is kind of embarrassing that windows media player from windws xp is still one of the kings of visualizers. Same with Kodi and milkdrop, this stuff is old and should be improved upon. Please make it happen you geniuses! <3

Sad that this is so elusive. With all the OLED tv’s out now and growing in popularity, a visualizer is a must have in any real Media player these days. Come on PLEX, what are you waiting for?

Kodi has has this for years.

Definitely a bump here. Milkdrop is by far one of the best visualization engines and it’s all open source. They made a WebGL version which can be found here: GitHub - jberg/butterchurn: Butterchurn is a WebGL implementation of the Milkdrop Visualizer

Shouldn’t be too hard to spin off that

This would completely change the game for Plex and music playback… Please Plex

Agreed. Plex amp is kinda cool on my phone or pc, but where I really wanna see the visualizers are through the media player app. Like via Tv or roku or streaming box. Would really propel my listening experience to the next level.

Honestly most of plexamp should be put as a standard into plex. The mobile features can remain in the app, but there should be a connection to the existing system. Frankly when I’m mobile I don’t need the visualizers that much… desktop maybe. Bur where I really need this feature is in the media player… That is kind of the point. I don’t care bout the brand or type of solution (ProjectM or otherwise) but there is obvious demand. Other streams have shut down but many requests… even this one is years old. Not sure if anyone reads these. It may be a place to just let customers vent haha

I still keep Winamp around just for Milkdrop.

Winamp had this as a free program… in 2003

added my vote too, although since the comments cover multiple areas, to clarify i’d like milkdrop/project m (or similar) as a embedded and fullscreen option in plexamp (and then if plex amp vis is coming to other apps anyway as per elan’s post, everyone is happy).

Edit: mac user now, so winamp isn’t an option for me, but thanks to @amortech for the butterchurn link, which in turn led me to https://webamp.org/ which let me get a full screen milkdrop fix - and now I want it in plexamp even more!

Using something like Milkdrop on the projector again would be amazing. I used to rock that when friends were over after drinking, and it’s amazing. I bet one day Plex might incorporate it, but who knows how long it might take. The fact that Plexamp came out gives me hope!
