Hi all,
Have just upgraded from a plasma tv to an Epson EH-TW5300 projector and in various spots, its like the frame rate drops to below 10 FPS. It’s pretty horrible. Seems to be all video qualities. Doesn’t seem to be in any particular spots either. Turning up the frame interpolation settings on my projector helps, but introduces other visual issues, yet, with frame interpolation off, my Xbox one plays all games 100% smoothly. I understand most of my video content is 24 FPS but it appears to drop well below this in certain scenes of movies and shows.
Are there any plex settings I can try and adjust? Not sure if I can process video from the server side? If that would help or make it worse?
Server side is an i5 HP Probook laptop with a 500GB SSD. HTPC with plex theatre is a custom built desktop with an i3 and SSD. Both machines have 16GB RAM.
Any help, tips or clues would be great!
Plex Home Theater is no longer supported.
Please use either OpenPHT
or switch to Plex Media Player.
Both are available for free.
Sorry, perhaps I am using plex media player. I downloaded it roughly 4 months ago. I’ve checked for updates within plex and it is all up to date.

The update check in an obsolete software won’t show you any updates.
Is there a quick and easy way to check if I am using the obsolete theatre version? I don’t see anywhere in settings that mention it. My plex version is 1.4.1 however. Regardless, this isn’t my issue as VLC has the same issue. I think it must just be the whole 24 FPS thing.

1.4.1 is the last version number for Plex Home Theater, it won’t alert you about its own obsolescence.

Then I’d look for an updated device driver for the graphics adapter and/or check the HDMI wire.
Awesome, will get the latest plex media player. I’m not sure it could be the HDMI cable as it connects through my amp and the motion and quality is perfect on Xbox. Perhaps I will check the graphics adapters driver also. Might even be worth checking through a known good DVD player I guess.
